If Albert is going to make 8-9 million a season can the Bears afford him? | As I said before, I don't worry about money being a factor b/c we have Cliff Stein, and Cliff Stein won't ever sign us a bad deal. |
But do you think Cliff Stein will green light Albert or do you think he will think it is too much money?
I wonder if the Bears are thinking that big or are thinking more conservative. _________________

I wonder if the Bears are thinking that big or are thinking more conservative. | We signed Julius Peppers to a deal that was worth $20M annually, and did it in a way that was extremely cap friendly until the very end of the deal. Cliff Stein is not going to be the one to make the decision on who we go after, his job is to sign them to the best possible deal for the Bears once the decision has been made. There is nobody better at it, so if Stein is told by Emery to sign Albert, Albert will be signed, and it will be a deal he likes, and one that is cap friendly for the team. _________________

Do you think Emery will target Albert? _________________

Brandon Albert at left tackle, wearing #76... I like that idea, but every time I see a #76 at LT from now on I'll disturbing Orlando Pace flashbacks...

What do you guys think of Ellerbe? |
Great player but too expensive for what we are probably looking for right now and I have heard he is the priority to re-sign on defense with Ray retiring. _________________

A cheaper more under the radar OT that I think we should look at is King Dunlap of the Eagles.
Don't let the overall suckage of the line fool you this guy was ranked 15th at LT by PFF and 21st by bleacher report and I think for the value he would be a nice guy to bring in to compete and for depth.
At 6'9" 330lbs he certainly has the size we like.
He could be a complimentary piece to a top OG like Levitre and Vasquez. _________________

What kind of contract do you think he'll get? Ravens have Flacco and possibly Ed Reed to resign. |

What would you guys prefer if we are going to spend on OL?
OG Louis Vasquez [San Diego] 5 years 32.5 million/16 guaranteed
Vasquez is not in the same class as Levitre, but he is a big [6'5" 335lbs] OG that Kromer prefers and he is an elite pass blocker. Vasquez can step in at LG immediately and give the Bears the unquestioned starter they need and he is young enough that he may still get better with Kromer's coaching.
Year 1: 1 million salary/2 million guaranteed [3]
Year 2: 3 million salary/4 million guaranteed [7]
Year 3: 3.5 million salary/4 million guaranteed [7.5]
Year 4: 4 million salary/4 million guaranteed [8]
Year 5: 5 million salary/2 million guaranteed [7] Likely Release or Extension
OT King Dunlap [Philadelphia] 4 years 16 million/10 guaranteed
With the strength of the OT market this season some solid players will be overlooked and will be signed for very reasonable contracts. Dunlap was ranked as the 15th LT by PFF and 21st by Bleacherreport and he is solid, competent and a starter. He can come in and challenge Webb or move Webb to RT and take over at LT and offer a solid upgrade. It would also allow more resources to be focused on the interior.
Year 1: 1 million salary/2 million guaranteed [3]
Year 2: 1 million salary/3 million guaranteed [4]
Year 3: 1 million salary/3 million guaranteed [4]
Year 4: 3 million salary/2 million guaranteed [5]
or
OG Andy Levitre 6 years 51 million/28 guaranteed
Year 1: 1 million salary/ 5 million guaranteed [5]
Year 2: 2 million salary/ 8 million guaranteed [10] Peppers Gone
Year 3: 5 million salary/ 5 million guaranteed [10] Cap Projected to Increase
Year 4: 4 million salary/ 5 million guaranteed [9]
Year 5: 4 million salary/ 4 million guaranteed [8]
Year 6: 7 million salary/ 1 million guaranteed [8] Restructure Space with Low Bonus
LG is the Bears weakest position and has been consistently since the retirement of Rueben Brown. Trestman believes in protecting the QB and not allowing pressure to influence the timing of a play. Kromer believes in protecting from the interior out and Jay Cutler has even said he can handle pressure from the OTs, but he cannot handle pressure up the middle where he has no where to step into a throw. Levitre will cost a premium, but he is an elite pass blocking OG that immediately turns LG from our biggest weakness into one of the strengths of the team.
Do we go with quality over quantity? _________________

My guess is 5 years 30 million.
They are going to let Kruger, Williams and others walk I think to get it done and they have about 15 million right now.
Now if they have to pay 20 million for a franchise tag all bets are off. _________________

| Quote: | NFL.com's Ian Rapoport says the Chiefs would like to bring free agent LT Branden Albert back, and the two sides have been in contact.
Albert's future has been cloudy, from the reports of teams possibly wanting to kick him inside to guard to the five-year veteran having a bad back. Those items have been shot down, though. Albert has already said the notion of him moving inside is "ludicrous," while USA Today's Mike Garafolo said Albert passed a "full physical" last week. His future with the Chiefs likely hinges on what the team thinks of Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel at the top of the draft. |
| Quote: | Free agent LT Jermon Bushrod said contract talks with the Saints have yet to get started.
The Bushrod free agency front has been pretty quiet to this point, but GM Mickey Loomis said last month that re-signing his left tackle will be the biggest challenge of the offseason. New Orleans is in another cap crunch for the second straight year. Bushrod checks in as our No. 9 free-agent tackle in what is currently a deep class. |
