How do we save $3M by cutting him? Looks to me like Dallas would take an $8.35M hit.

We take $8.35m hit which is less than the $11.175m hit if we keep him |

That's not to mention the $8M base salary in 2014. Free needs to go. I'm confident that we could get a more than capable RT for the $11M+ we'd save by cutting free over the next 2 years. _________________ Quote from May 7, 2013...

Yet another reason to prove Jerry's incompetence. Had he not cut the GOAT, we wouldn't be in this mess. McQuistan would've saved us. _________________

Seven sacks against the Browns, and here is the responsibility tracker:
Sack 1. Jermey Parnell
Sack 2. (in order from most responsibility to least) BurninDuece, Doug Free, Dockery
Sack 3. Doug Free
Sack 4. (in order)Felix Jones, Doug Free
Sack 5. Could arguably be considered a coverage sack, but ultimately... Doug Free
Sack 6. (in order) BurninDuece, Jermey Parnell
Sack 7. Doug Free
So by my count, the 7 sacks are divided and result in these quotients that represent the amount of blame:
Doug Free: 3.83333 out of 7
Jermey Parnell: 1.5 out of 7
Burnin Duece: .83333 out of 7
Felix Jones: .5 out of 7
Derrick Dockery: .33333 out of 7
It sucks that the one O linemen we shouldn't be worried about is the one responsible for over half of Sundays sacks. _________________

To challenge what Jerry said about Doug Free's "stellar" play, here's what Michael Irvin had to say:
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/2012/11/michael-irvin-tells-cowboys-rt-doug-free-to-tighten-down-or-get-out.html/
| Michael Irvin wrote: | | “Oh my God, Doug Free, man. I’m talking about, Jimmy Johnson would cut him on the spot.” |
| Michael Irvin wrote: | | “Doug Free, you got to tighten up or you need to be free. I’m telling you right now. Tighten down or get out! That’s what you do.” |
There's the difference, folks. The old Dallas Cowboys would not only have their players hold each other accountable, but a real head coach would've dumped that loser on the spot. Instead, Jerry praises him. _________________

| I'm not a fan of keeping Doug Free either. But I understand cutting him would cost us money. Can we move him to GUARD? Draft a RT? |

I see this thrown out quite a bit and don't know why. Free doesn't strike as a guy who could hold up on the interior in any fashion. _________________

When he has his feet under him he's tough guy to move - it seems that his poor footwork is getting him in trouble and that's when you see him get blown up and pushed into Romo's lap. Moving him inside takes away a lot of space and lets him work in a phone booth, allowing for him to set his feet and go.
Not saying it'd work but I can see why - in theory - it might _________________

Yea, I am over the Free experiment. How can someone be so good on the left and so bad on the right. _________________ Bring swag back to Dallas 2012.

He was terrible last year, too.
I think he could be a competent guard, but not good enough to justify his salary. Sucks it only saves $3M against the cap to cut him, but he's probably still gone, not like any owner would pay him $8M. _________________

Saves $3M this year, but $15M in the long run. _________________

If we do dump Free after the year, I'd be all for bringing in Andre Smith.
While he hasn't lived up to his high draft status, he has developed into a good right tackle over the last year or two in Cincinnati. That would allow us to still devote our draft resources to the interior of the o-line. So maybe something like:
LT - T. Smith
LG - Arkin/Livings
C - Costa
RG - Cooper/Warmack
RT - A. Smith _________________

This 2012 version may actually be even worse than 2011 and 2010.
Think about what that says.
They have gone from being a weakness on this team to a unit that seems incapable of allowing the offense to call any play - run or pass - with any degree of consistency. Provided that Jason Garrett turns things over to Tony Romo so that he can attempt to escape another sack, all the while, making things up as he goes, they at least have a chance to compete. |

MH, Do you ever get to listen to Sturm on the radio in Dallas. I also live in DFW, and if you want stats he is the guy you turn to find things out. _________________
