Since Lefty might be our main QB for some time, I thought this merited its own thread. Some very interesting words from Haley:
| Quote: | Haley reiterated Thursday that his is not a scheme-oriented offense; he instead plays to the strengths of his personnel.
Haley showed that as a coordinator in Arizona and as head coach in Kansas City. Now he will have a chance to will prepare a game plan around Leftwich, who hasn’t started a game in more than three years.
Translation: The dink-and-dunk will be scaled back for at least a couple weeks.
“When I say it is not a system, it is not a system,” Haley said. “It is the way I’ve been brought up to coach, and the way you maximize the players you have is you better play to their strengths. So when Byron is in there, we’re going to do our best to cater to his strengths.”

Todd Haley Interview
Haley seems like a great OC by understanding the strengths of his players. _________________

After years of Arians stubborness, what should be simple common sense almost feels like a novel concept. _________________

Exactly....like not creating a single play to take advantage of Dennis Dixon's mobility. _________________

Anyone else worried that if Haley does get Leftwich to play a winning level while Ben is out, that he may get some serious looks as HC again next year?
I really dont wanna lose him that soon. _________________

I think Haley will stick around for a little while. He's had his taste of coaching and probably only take over the perfect job. _________________

If he keeps Leftwhich from getting killed and we display that we can sustain any type of offense that keeps us competitive in this game I'll be impressed.
A 16-13 or 17-16 win loss would be equivalent of that for me, somewhere in that range. Maybe Im underestimating the abilities of the Ravens offense and overestimating the ability of their defense? Maybe even 24-13, just if he keeps from getting killed. Any kind of execution and sustained drives will impress me. Perhaps my bar is low.
The real expectation is falling on our defense to come up with something for this one. _________________

I find your lack of faith in Master Leftwich is disturbing. _________________ Kickers are people too |

people have faith in him because of his experince....look at his true starting years in jacksonville...they replace him with Garrad...it did not work...so where they right in there evaluation? That team still doesn't have a QB. So it's not like Lefty has been horrible and played himself out of a starting role. He lost a competition to someone who is not playing now...so thats why people may still have faith in him. He has one glaring weakness...it's his wind up...other good qb's have glaring weakness...like Tony Romo and Phillip Rivers.
I think Lefty will prove to be a very good back up. _________________

I think in a normal year, no way anyone would be giving him a head coaching gig so shortly removed from his last one, since he did burn a few bridges and rub some people the wrong way as a HC.
But given the state of a number of franchises in the NFL, I have a feeling it's going to be a very busy off season of hirings/firings. A lot of teams are going to be looking for a HC this off season. |
