Not a single Packer on here. By far my favorite team but not a single player from it makes the list.
Not a football player at all on the list though it's by far my favorite sport. _________________

They always ask, "why do you have a hippie on your back?" I just shake my head as that doesn't even warrant a response...
I also left off MMA fighters as my list would grow substantially. I simply cannot list only 10 athletes that are my "favorite" as I love a ton of them. Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, BJ Penn, Anthony Pettis, Sam Stout, Court McGee, Nick Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Todd Duffee...
I could go on, and on, and on, and on listing MMA fighters. Jesus, I need a life. _________________

Nice man, you play tennis? |
Played on the Canadian Tour years ago.
I've been a trainer on and off (not that lucrative unless you're loaded).
Agassi was a beast growing up haha. Loved the man. _________________ Legends Never Die. They Breathe Through The New Generation.

The guy from Bad Boys II ???? |
One of my all time favorites... but no. Johnny Tapia is IMO the best pound for pound fighter EVER. 5 time World Boxing champion, from my hometown Albuquerque. Mike Tyson has been on record saying he is his favorite fighter. |
Tapia was a great fighter. It's unfortunate life's demons never allowed him to find any peace in this world. His life story is truly filled with heartbreak not just for himself but everyone close to him. _________________

This is tough one for me because a lot of my favorites aren't necessarily guys who were standout greats (some obviously were), but they're guys I had a chance to meet who took serious time to talk with you instead of giving you the usual fan-gladhanding, among other things. There's of course guys I grew up emulating or at least trying to, and some other assorted gems in there as well.
In no particular order (because I'd drive myself insane trying to nitpick an order):
1. Wally Joyner - Yeah, yeah, I know. Wally was never great, but he was very good... and he was the first Angel I went gaga for. My best friend growing up from originally from Frisco and was a massive Will Clark fan; literally he could care less about the Giants but that kid LOVED Will Clark something fierce. He had Will, I had Wally.
2. Doug Flutie - This was what made it easier for me to transition to being a Chargers fan after the Rams left LA, because I had an unhealthy obsession with Flutie.
3. Danny Manning - The guy was straight class and for the longest time the only talent on an otherwise dearth that was the Clippers (we don't speak Brand's name or acknowledge his existence). Incredibly underrated player.
4. Chris Mullen - Literally the only NorCal affiliated athlete I'd ever admit to genuinely liking. Maybe it was the haircut, but I just loved the guy.
5. Denis Bergkamp - When the kids I grew up playing soccer with were wanting to be Ronaldo or *ack* Brian McBride, I idolized Denis Bergkamp.
6. Al Unser Jr. - I get the feeling that Little Al was easy for kids to like, but this guy actually remembered me from the first time I met him when I met him a second time. How do you not pull for a guy after that?
7. Sweetness (Walter Payton) - I vaguely remember his last few years with the Bears, but I was really young. That said, I had a chance to meet him not terribly long before his death (actually only about two months after his disclosure of having primary sclerosing cholangitis) and I'm not sure I've ever met a more gracious and humble athlete who had also been so great.
8. Kevin Greene - It killed me when the Rams just up and released him. I never really supported the Steelers, but I always had KG's back. when he went to the Panthers, while I wouldn't consider them a "second team" by any means, I always had a soft spot for them because they had Kevin.
9. Tony Adams - Yes, another Arsenal play. Look, I love Thierry Henry, but Tony is Mr. Arsenal as far as I'm concerned. It's Tony's spirit that's gotten me into being such a huge Jack Wilshere supporter now as his tenacity reminds me so much of Adams'.
10. Junior Seau - Loved him even before I was a Charger fan. I was devastated, but 'understood' when he was allowed to leave in free agency. And I was contemplating seppuku when he joined the Patriots.
HM: Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch (he's family, never got a chance to see him play obviously, but I did get to meet him several times before he died; awesome guy!); Stan Mikita, Jim Abbott, Jared Weaver, Ric Flair, Tank Abbott (if only because Dave was one of my regulars when I got my first gig waiting tables in a restaurant in Huntington Beach). _________________
