Thank goodness. If they insist on keeping W. smith they should move him to backup OG. His biggest trouble seems to be speed/finesse on the outside. He is a good RB.

RB?

I think he meant run blocker??

TBH I don't think he's 'good' at either but his run blocking is better than his pass protection. Barnes gets a lot of stick here and he certainly isn't great but he is a serviceable RT as we've found out recently. Worth keeping on the team next season in case our draft picks (assuming we try to upgrade OL) don't work out IMO

Yes to all of those.

Probably hasnt helped Briesel any either to be sandwiched in between two rookies in essence. Seeing as this is Wiz first season playing only OC and Smith in the most action he has seen.

That's a good point, Briesel is hard to judge. I thought he would be much better than he's been but as the ZBS which we've primarily been running features a lot of cohesiveness across the OL this can't have helped. I think he should start to get settled if Barnes comes back and plays through this second half of the season. If he doesn't show something before the seasons ends then its time to be concerned.

I have to give Brisiel a pass this season. The key to ZBS is cohesiveness of which this unit has none. Once the RT is fixed I can fairly assess his play.

I'm pretty excited by this. I've always been a fan of Barnes... in that I don't think he was as bad as what's been thrown around here the last 2 years. I think he's very serviceable and at times pretty good. Having him back should help Palmer. And since he's already throwing for 300 yards a game... should be interesting to see what he'll do this week against the horrid Saints defense.

Watch this will end up being one of those low scoring games were both defenses play well. lol

Right now I give the edge to Saints as they are simply better in the red zone.

How many has he had? But I agree, too many holding penalties, which is a clear sign of getting beat.

According to ProFootballWeekly, 6 so far. 4 false starts and 2 holdings.

What exactly about Barnes are you a fan of? Actually, I'm kidding. That's the unfunny question I get from time to time when I tell people I'm a Raider fan.

Upon examination of Barnes' career he typically has one of two types of seasons. Pedestrian, whereby the doesn't excel but he doesn't have horrid games either typically these seasons tend to correlate with ZBS or volatile, a few decent games in a PBS marred by a handful of horrific outtings. I suspect that if Barnes returns healthy he will upgrade the right from abysmal to merely unacceptable (which given the state of things Raider-Nation will take it)

Oh only 2 holdings? thought it was more, that's not too bad but 4 false starts is no good.

I'd rather have it the other way around. False start is as dumb a penalty as you can have.

I can agree with that. False start is straight lack of discipline. At least holding shows that you're not giving up.

I'd give a new/rookie Olineman a bit of leeway on the false-starts.

Maybe a rookie early in the season but not a 6 year vet. You get the snap count, you don't move until then. How hard is it to grasp?

That's exactly what I'm a fan of. Considering the other options we have had at RT.... that sounds pretty darn acceptable don't you think? Laughing

Specifically the part where he doesn't have horrid games but isn't great. That's pretty much what I said, I like that he's serviceable, a good stop gap until we can find a long term young replacement. He was bashed here quite often when we first got him, he had a few bad games. But overall he's been decent.
