|
Here were Barry Sanders' rushing totals through 10 games in 1997, the year he ran for 2,053 yards and won NFL co-MVP honors with Brett Favre:
201 carries, 1,103 yards, 5.5-yard average, four touchdowns.
Here are Adrian Peterson's rushing totals through the Vikings' first 10 games this season:
195 carries, 1,128 yards, 5.8 average, seven touchdowns.
Forget NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Peterson has a much bigger trophy within his powerful grasp: NFL Most Valuable Player.

Nothing here to discuss. AP isn't even the best back this generation or even right now. _________________

with the defenses that he has to face in the remainder of the year, i'll say he wont do it.
Bears x2 - 92.3 yds/game allowed
Packers x2 - 98.3 yds/game allowed
Houston - 85.6 yds/game allowed
St Louis - 114.1 yds/game allowed
He'll have to average ~154 yards per game against them, which is well above what they're allowing.
Barry's stats for his last six games were 134 carries for 950 yards, which was over 7 yards a carry.
AP will need to be the entire offense for the Vikings for him to break it...and I can't see these teams allowing him to beat them. _________________

Why isn't this in the NFL forum? And it's not like Barry has the all time season high either. _________________ Its only a matter of time until Hockey Town USA is rocking again!

why complain about it? what's the big deal?
it's just a light discussion topic between two fanbases about stars on their teams.

i posted it here because i'm far more interested in reading this forum's views of Sanders than the rabble's of the entire site.

Sanders was ridiculous that year. He had 53 yards total in two games, then belted off 2,000 yards in 14 games.
Peterson is currently on pace for about 1,805 yards, but he has averaged 157.25 yards over the last four weeks. If he maintains that pace through six more games, Peterson finishes with 2,071 yards.
I guess bdubs has a point though. The Bears' defense is nasty against the run and the Vikings still have to face them twice. Houston's isn't far behind them, and I question whether the Vikings will be able to use Peterson that often against the Packers considering how hot their offense has been of late. Those games could turn into shootouts, and even Adrian Peterson is going to see a reduced workload (especially in the carries department) if the Vikings fall behind by enough.
I think he'll probably wind up with around 1,700 yards, but unfortunately it's hard for me to envision him winning CPOY (Peyton Manning) or MVP (Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan). Which is unfortunate, because he's having a career year. _________________

for what it's worth, historically Peterson has done very well against Da Bearz. _________________

Since he came into the league...he's averaged 21 carries for 102.88 yards vs the Bears...but most of this yardage was in 2007 and 2008, due to 3 big games...one monster game.
carries/yards
2007 - 20/224 & 20/78
2008 - 22/121 & 28/131
2009 - 25/85 & 24/94
2010 - 17/51
2011 - 12/39 _________________
