Im certainly hoping for Blaine's sake he doesnt have a horror show 3rd year like JaMarcus. However, I find it quite interesting that their 2nd year #s arent too far apart. You also have to factor in JR's head coach was fired and had 3 different play callers throughout the year. Johnnie Lee Higgins was his best wr Laughing Laughing

Here is Blaine and JaMarcus before the Purple Drank filled 09 season

Laughing Laughing

Blaine 9 tds 6ints 58% 166ypg QB rating 77.4 QBR 40.93

JaMarcus 13tds 8ints 53.8% 161.5 ypg QB rating 77.1 QBR 35.28

Sadly Blaine wont get the last 6 games to improve his teams wins and stats. The last few games of the season actually improved JaMarcus #s.

JR only had 2 wins at around the same time Blaine was injured. JaMarcus went on to win 3 more games for the Raiders.

So which season was better (considering everything)

And I had no idea his # were that similar to JR's 2nd year
Shocked

I just have to say that Russell's 08 season disqualifies him from being a bigger bust than Leaf. I think a few people try to downplay or ignore it just to enhance the narrative.

This.

He had just one less game with an 85+ passer rating than Matt Ryan.

Don't like Blaine now, didn't like him coming out, but to call him a bust after an injury filled season, where he doesn't have QB calls others do, one in which includes the torn labrum.

Has he been bad? Yes
Is he done in Jacksonville? Yep, but so is the people who drafted him and both sets of coaches...he just never got the chance to develop, but the good thing is he with his play now, we know what we have going forward. He is an average at best quarterback who was overdrafted on measurables, it happens.

Also- Russell finacially hurt the Raiders, now we can move on every year with how low base salaries are.

We're talking on the field. Not financial cost.

The truth is JaMarcus wasnt viewed as a "bust" either at that time. It wasnt until he the next year, in which he had MAYBE the worst season for a starting QB ever. Until that point.....

Before he REALLY was doing too much purple drank, before he was getting fatter.

He was mostly viewed as just a struggling young QB. I remember there was a Joe Flacco/JaMarcus Russell thread in the spring of 09?

#s werent too far off. An there was a belief Russell would at least be solid. Sadly, Russell purple dranked and ate himself out of the league.

Its too early to judge Blaine Gabbert but it may not work out for him.

Jville probably has to draft a new QB with all new coaching to be installed.

BEcause Ryan Leaf exists, because LEaf is the worst.

Saw both. Leaf was better than Smith. Book it.

Blaine Gabbert definitely has a chance to be worse

And what will be swept under the rug by ESPN and all the other "experts" is that they had Blaine Gabbert higher on their draftboard as a prospect than Cam Newton

They better hope Cam Newton struggles the rest of his career or that will make them look even worse

Blaine Gabbert has similar second year numbers as Eli Manning as well.

This thread is asinine.

Russell looked so good at the end of the 08 season and i really thought he was going to have a great year in 09.....then he got fat and everything went down the crapper.

This is why he's an interesting subject.

He has two polar opposite directions he could possibly go towards.
