Gentlemen,

I have watched every Vikings game for nearly a decade, and I'll be honest with you: I think we have one of the worst home-crowds in the league. I have lived in four different states since becoming a fan, and I can say that Vikings fans as a whole are a devoted and pleasant bunch, but I can't stand how delicate and impatient the home crowd has become. They boo and boo and boo at every twist and turn. Incomplete pass? Boos. Running play on 2nd and long? More Boos. Three and out? Boo-birds every single time. The worst is how this often happens even when we have the lead

There are fanbases who only boo their home team under the most DIRE circumstances, so what has made us so irritable? No matter how bad our history is as a franchise, there is no excuse to create such a hostile environment for our own team. Is it the conditions of the Metrodump? What is it? Because I feel embarrassed watching stars like Peterson and Harvin get booed off the field when the fans should be supporting them until the end. Even Ponder should get some patience from the fans as a freakin' second year QB. Why is the home-crowd wired this way, Valhalla?

I don't agree with your general premise. They want us to cheer and care, but then don't understand why people are mad when they suck?

Drive an hour. Pay to park. Pay for tickets. Pay for bad beer and bad food. Don't get as many replays, or highlights of other games. Wait in line for the bathroom. Put up with sometimes drunk and rowdy people around you. Drive an hour again.

I think people that put up with all of that have the right to boo if they want. When people stop booing, then you know you are in trouble, because that means they don't care anymore.

ymmv.

And I admit to not understanding your embarrassment. you didn't do anything.

By that I mean I'm embarrassed to call myself a fan when I see that on TV. And if it's just the miserable conditions of the Dome, then OK. But I've been to several other stadiums and watch other NFL games all the time, and Vikings fans boo their own team by far the most. That's the essential question, PCP: why do Vikings fans boo (by far) the most? And to the extent that it become ridiculous in my opinion

If the experience is that miserable for some, why even bother going.

I havent been to many stadiums, but its just part of the game, I am not sure the intention of just singling out Viking fans. Go to an Eagles game, I hear they boo Santa.

I think the Vikings have a lot of passionate and emotional fans.

I llol on that one!

There are a lot of people that don't go, and read profootballtalk.com about Goodell's comments and peoples' reactions.

I am not convinced that Vikings' fans are worse than other fans. In Detroit and NO, they wore bags over their heads for years, and stopped buying tickets completely. There are plenty of fans that boo their team, I don't buy your premise that fans here are worse.

Now, I don't go to a ton of games anymore, so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it has gotten worse here and better other places, but I think you are suffering from being close to the Vikings, and remembering things that stick to your idea. It is a common phenomena.

OTOH, maybe you are right, but that is not what I read from the sportswriters or hear on the radio when these kinds of questions are raised.

You should ask a sportswriter what they think.

Your mileage may vary is the literal translation.

It means, you may have a different opinion, but neither is really wrong.

to be honest, I started this thread in hopes of someone else chiming in to rant about the issue so I could have a "this guy knows what I'm talking about" moment. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this because I truly believe it's an issue

I agree with your premise. Vikes fans boo too much. I don't have a rant to go with it though.

I don't think our crowd boos more than most and I'm not bothered when they do. It's part of having fans that care.
