|
|
|
I've seen two threads in two other forums asking about DPOY of the year candidates and see a lot of people nominating JJ Watt, a lot of people nominating Charles Tillman. I've seen Von Miller, Clay Matthews III and DeMarcus Ware but no Daryl Washington. Tell me guys, honestly, am I being a homer for thinking this is crazy? Don't get me, all of those guys are great players and worthy candidates but I can't see Daryl Washington isn't getting more respect. What he's doing from the 3-4 ILB spot, to me, is insane. 3-4 ILBs rarely put up the type of numbers he's putting up? Is he a viable top 5 candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award or am I blinded by the light? _________________

I think every great defensive player can be labeled a "candidate" but our likely collapse will just about make it impossible for him to win or even finish top 5 IMO... Technically he's not even the best LB in the NFC West.
In 1-2 years when/if we get back to winning and D-Wash is at his peak then he'll be a favorite. This year i think the top vote getters will consist of Watt and the two Bears' DB's...
Oh, and whenever you're in a bad mood just go here. _________________

He is good player, possibly great if he keeps up his form
Is he DPOY? Not even close. DPOY dominate games, Watt does, Ware sometimes, Willis alot, Washington not yet.
Maybe in time, but not yet.
A homer yes, but don't we all see through red coloured glasses? |

Willis hasn't dominated games this year though. You could make the case that he's not the best ILB on his own team right now. And is Ware really dominating games? He's got less solo tackles and only 2 more sacks than D-Wash. _________________

Perception is 9 tenths stchamp.
People think he is special, the media make or break players in the states.
Also, Ware plays for America's team remember. |

While all of that is true, should it really be a factor to guys like me? Should I give DeMarcus Ware more credit than D-Wash simply because he plays for Dallas and everybody knows Jerry Jones? That doesn't make me a homer, at least it shouldn't IMO. _________________

No you shouldn't but the people who vote do
No zona player will get any award of note as the perception is we arent any good even when we get to the playoffs etc |

While true none of this really answers my question. This thread is asking if D-Wash is a viable candidate, not what the perception of fair weather fans is. Fair weather fans don't even get votes for this award, it's respected NFL media members. _________________

All being said, he has had a good season
No where near a DPOY award.
DPPY players dominate games.
Has Dwash dominated games? or at least 1 game to change the result? |

Viable? With the way JJ Watt is playing, with the way Tim Jennings is playing, with the way Von Miller is playing.
No. Those three are, right now, clearly the best performed defensive players in the NFL this season, and really it is not even all that close behind those three.
He is however one of the leading candidates on that next level, but he is not a big name that is going to be pushed over a guy like Ware or Mathews despite his level of playing being tremendous this season.
Are we right to be ecstatic about how Daryl has been playing this season, no question, is he among the leading candidates for DPOY, no way, not with the level of play come from your leading three in Watt, Miller and Jennings. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's
