Interesting hire. Not sure how he fits this new Toronto team. _________________

Must be really desperate on Gibbons part. Go back to the team that fired you only 4 years earlier _________________

I really like this move. Its really ballsy by AA considering a lot of fairweather or casual fans wont understand why he did this. They will just remember the altercations with Ted lilly and shae hillenbrand.
He actually got that team to close to 500 and that was when the yanks and bosox were running train on the division.
People will point out hes very loyal to his veteran players, often times to a fault, however with all the talent we have acquired in the last week, im not sure thats a bad thing.
Gibby is a very good bullpen manager- something farrell had a tough time with last year, Gibby also actually looks at splits and does some very unconventional things with lineups, based on opposing pitchers.
Hes a no nonsense guy who with this group of very talented players I think will go along way to getting everyone focused and bring the team together. This will probably go a long way towards getting lawrie on track and the younger players (JPA, rasmus) as he will hold everyone accountable.
It likely means bruce walton will stay as our pitching coach, which is awesome.
Gibby needs to hire a coaching staff and most importantly I think a bench coach- im hoping someone who can speak spanish cause boomhauer, i mean gibbon can barely speak english to begin with |

Initial reaction was, lolwut. Day later reaction, it was a sensible hire and although Gibby's press conferences were often a joke because he's hardly the most well-spoken manager around, he's a great baseball guy who knows the game and his team very well. Particularly in the bullpen, where we've had our struggles in recent memory but now have a solid stable of arms.
Anthopoulos has obvious ties and familiarity to Gibbons, as he was rising through the front office ranks when J.P. Ricciardi initially hired him in 2004. Alex and J.P. have always been very close, so I'd assume that would have played at least a very small part in the decision.
Gibbons was off the radar and coaching SD's double-A affiliate in San Antonio to be closer to his family, so I wouldn't say that's damning to his credibility. _________________
