The goal is to score more points than your opponent in 60 minutes. Then you get another 15 minutes and you still can't? Go the hell home. You fail. People got stuff to do and can't be waiting around for you to figure out who sucks less.

Who sucks less? The rams are up and coming and the niners are a top 5 team in the NFL. It was a division rivalry

I understand what you're getting at, but if the ravens and steelers do this they are praised for how strong the rivalry is. Period.

Either way, this game would have had a winner if the refs hadn't been screwing everyone left and right

I knew the Rams were going to be better under Fisher and even predicted them in 3rd place, ahead of the Cards. But i thought we'd win the first matchup, and lose the 2nd matchup in STL.

TBH the tie kind of feels like a loss anyway. We didn't win, so i don't feel satisfied with the result either way. But its better than a loss for playoff purposes.

And someone clear it up for me, is the NFL the only major sports league that allows ties? I know the MLB and NBA don't, and i don't think the NHL has ties either. But then again, neither of those sports are as physical as the NFL is.

No it should't abolish the tie. It's extremely rare and probably won't make a difference in how San Fran or St.Louis finish at the end of the season.

Hell no. Keep it the way it is. I always found the college football system rather gimmicky anyway but that style works for college sports. Wouldn't like it in the NFL.

And to add, I don't like the idea of breaking a tie just for the sake of making sure there's a winner and a loser instead of whatever tie there is being broken because one team proves itself better over the course of play, because a lot of suggestions I'm seeing in this topic are just that. If 75 minutes isn't enough to decide a winner, then just let it be.

No, and this game in particular shouldn't be a catalyst for abolishing a tie, neither team deserved to win.

The game would have been too long.

And since its rare, it isn't that big of a deal.

Yeah. Five quarters is enough.

I think the players should vote to see if they want a tie or not. As viewers, we would want the game to go on until we see a winner, but players might be fatigue and tired and just want to end the game.

Not me. Sorry but i would hate to see a football game go on like some baseball games do. Complete different sport but the same basis IMO. If neither football team can score any points in 15:00 minutes, neither deserves to win.

Some players don't even know the game ends in a tie, and you want them to vote?

If they just kept adding quarters to the game, that wouldn't work, but if they made some other sort of alternative overtime, it would be nice to always have a team win and lose.
Slapboxing. We've already discussed this james.

Leave it to the kickers, kind of like a shootout.....line up from 40-45 and whoever hits the most out of 3, wins Laughing

Field Goal H-O-R-S-E? Might be more interesting.
Better way to do this. PATs but with different players. Golden goal style.

In the event of the game ending in a tie I feel opposing teams kickers should rochambeau for the win. flip a coin and winner of the call goes first.
Akers win the toss. Goes first with rock. Paper is chosen. Second kicker always wins Wink Laughing

Gonna possibly say a crazy statement and say that I don't think we should have OT outside of playoff games. Teams are too conservative as is. Play to win the game. :ducks from tomatoes:

rochambaeu is a contest where you kick each other in the nuts until someone drops or quits.

The solution's easy: just have a sudden death field goal contest where each kicker has to kick 50 yard kicks until one misses. If they both make it through a couple rounds successfully, bump the distance back.

THAT'S drama.

Players fighting it out for 60 mins only to have the game decided by a kicking contest.

I don't predict that rule going over too well in the NFL... Laughing

The players would like it more than a 2nd overtime.... besides, anyone doubting the value of a kicker before, wouldn't anymore Laughing

Let's just give both teams wins, and send them home with milk and cookies.

Draws should be more common.

I frankly believe OT should just be a 5th quarter. If it's a tie, it's a tie.

Frankly too many times a team gets a win they did not deserve. Plenty of time to get a true victory. Ties are there when neither team deserved to win.

It can be like how some little leagues are today. There are no losers we all win! Trophies for everyone!

I'd be down for a modified version of the college rule, where each team starts at the 50.
