| Quote: | Lions left tackle Jeff Backus was Detroit’s first draft pick of the Matt Millen era, and unlike most of Millen’s draft picks, Backus has been a valuable player: He started the first game of his rookie year and has started every game since then, for 186 consecutive starts in all.
But that streak is expected to end on Thanksgiving.
Backus hobbled off the field with a hamstring injury in Sunday’s loss to the Packers, and the Lions have described him as doubtful for Thursday’s game against the Texans. So barring Backus surprisingly waking up on Thursday morning and feeling fine, it appears that the consecutive games streak will end at 186. |
I created a thread for this simply to discuss, if Reiff excels in his first start would you put Backus back in there when he is healthy or would Reiff finish out the season as starter?
Do you see maybe Backus moving to the RG spot this year?
If Backus is benched, how do you think he will handle it? _________________ AAL: DeAndre Levy 31 Tackles

With the direction this season is going, I could see the Lions leaving Reiff out there for the rest of the year to see what they have in him.
As far as next season is concerned, I'd bet Jeff would be a team player whether he's starting or coming off the bench. _________________ Are you getting Ziggy with it? |

Then next year they'll have Backus compete with Peterman for the RG spot. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

I hope that's the case. I think it'll be important for them to figure out exactly what they have him Reiff so they know how to move forward. If he doesn't seem like he'll be able to cut it at LT they can slide him to RT, but either way it'll be important to figure out sooner rather than later. _________________

Thought Reiff more than held his own today. I think it's fair to question, should Backus even regain his LT spot at this point. _________________

| I thought Reiff played great, aside from the hands to face penalty. It was the right side of the line that was not holding their blocks long enough late in game. other than that, I was impressed by our OL as a whole in this game. Saw more stunt blocking than usual, and Stafford had lots of time on the majority of his throws. |
