Shorts is the only receiver I have like that we drafted that appears to be any good.
I was excited about Jones and Dillard too, not so much with Thomas and Underwood _________________

Kind of lost in the Shorts attention...
I just realized that if B14ckmon gets 163 more yards in the next two games (I know it's unlikely) then both he and Shorts will have had the most yards since Jimmy Smith. Only ones ahead of B14ckmon right now are Matt Jones (2008), Mike Sims-Walker (2009), and Mike Thomas (2010). He'll almost certainly pass Matt Jones and needs 114 to pass Mike Thomas. _________________

And speaking of Blackmon

In parenthesis, in what season they accrued their first 1,000 yard season, rookie season after the dash.
1. Calvin Johnson (2) - 756 yards
2. Wes Welker (5) - 434 yards
3. Victor Cruz (2) - 0 yards
4. Larry Fitzgerald (2) - 780 yards
5. Steve Smith (3) - 151 yards
6. Rob Gronkowski (2) - 546 yards
7. Jimmy Graham (2) - 356 yards
8. Roddy White (3) - 446 yards
9. Jordy Nelson (4) - 366 yards
10. Brandon Marshall (2) - 309 yards
11. Mike Wallace (2) - 756 yards
12. Hakeem Nicks (2) - 790 yards
13. Dwayne Bowe (2) - 995 yards
14. Marques Colston (1) - 1,038 yards
15. Antonio Brown (2) - 167 yards
16. Vincent Jackson (4) - 59 yards
17. A.J. Green (1) - 1,057
18. Nate Washington (7) - 624 yards
19. Stevie Johnson (3) - 102 yards
Blackmon is on pace for 444 yards right now. That would put him 11th on this list if we were to rank them based on rookie campaigns. Sure, a lot of these guys weren't top 5 picks, but who cares? They're still the best in the league and almost all of them took time to adjust to the NFL game. You draft players for how they will pan out over the course of a career, not how quickly they can put it together.
Maybe it's me, but I'd rather draft a Roddy White or Wes Welker in the top 5 than a Pierre Garçon. |
To update, Blackmon is 9th on this list as of right now. He is projected to get to 4th. He won't crack the top 3 unless he averages 89.4 yards per game for the last 5 weeks, and he could only take first if he averaged 101.8 yards per game for the last 5. |
Updated:
He is currently slated to 7th. He is still projected to get to 4th. He needs 84 yards over the next two games to reach that mark. With just 74 yards, he will pass both Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson's rookie yardage marks, two guys that are basically universally acknowledged as top 3 receivers in the NFL.
We have a lot to be excited about with these two receivers. Here's hoping we get ourselves a QB to pair with these two and have ourselves an incredible passing game for the next near decade. _________________

Jerry Sullivan is probably gone next year
I still don't know why we cut Elliot. Stupid decision. Same with cutting Aaron Morgan. _________________

I was okay with cutting Aaron Morgan. Thought it was beyond dumb to cut Kevin Elliot. _________________

competes well in the running game, he’s a good blocker, excellent downfield receiver, he’s got really good quickness off the line of scrimmage against the press coverage, catch and run plays, he takes the short paths, breaks tackles and can take it all the way. He’s a real sharp route runner with excellent hands, good in traffic, gets good separation and I really think he does everything well. He competes hard. He’s really an impressive player that way. He doesn’t take any plays off. He works hard on every route. Like I said, even in the running game he is very competitive. I am really impressed with him." |

Undrafted Free Agents are great scapegoats. Because people would really believe that they're the problem. _________________
