Here are a couple interesting recent articles on Joe Banner. Both are well worth reading.

Chronicle-Telegram:
http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2012/11/08/new-browns-ceo-joe-banner-observing-learning-but-glad-for-the-challenge/

National Football Post:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/What-Browns-fans-will-get-with-Joe-Banner.html

EDIT TO ADD: Here's another one, a Q&A from Nate Ulrich. Might be the most informative of the 3:

Since we've been talking about hiring/firing coaches, I thought this quote was particularly relevant:
Quote:
What exactly will the Browns get with Joe Banner?

Hiring and firing: Joe will not make a decision without calling 10 to 15 references on hiring a coach or personnel man. Joe’s biggest strength is taking his time in making decisions, doing massive amounts of research and getting everyone’s opinion. He is shrewd and calculating when it comes to big decisions. When it comes to a firing, he’s not afraid to pull the trigger. Joe is credited for hiring good football people. He was quick to pick up top football people who were fired from other positions and have them focus on whatever their strength is.

So there you go.

I keep hearing on the radio about Mike Lombardi or Jon Gruden.

First, Lombardi would wig me out.

2nd, Am i the only one here that thinks Gruden is way overrated?

The only thing right now I don't like about Banner is sometimes he gets rid of players like Brian Dawkins to quick. I remember a lot of Eagles fans complained about that. Some players like Ray Lewis,Dawkins and Dawson play well even though they are older. Players need to be evaluated on their perfomance not just age. Knowing when some players are just about done is a tricky proposition at best. That is his job to know. If we bring in a new kicker for example and we finish 8-8 because our new kicker missed a couple of field goals to lose a couple of games for us I'd hate to be in Banner's shoes. Especially if Dawson goes somewhere and has a good season. Haslim would also catch heat for hiring Banner. Brown's fans are tired of losing. To miss the playoffs because of a average kicker just won't cut it.

Honestly, Im not sure if I can even watch the team if Lombardi is here. I can not stand him at all.

No way do I want Gruden. He won with Dungy's team.

John Gruden is an amazing coach. Hes gotten so much out of so many terrible quarterbacks that its amazing. Every QB hes coached had their best years under him with the exception of the near 40 year old Garcia who still had a near pro bowl season.

The problem is that most of the players he drafts, suck.

I think he might want full authority of the team, that would be terrible.

Gruden loves his old vets over young talent.

I believe you need a good mix of both.

I just think he is vastly overrated by the media.

Why can't these be about Jay's delight to join the Browns as HC?

Thanks for posting Reg. Two very good reads. Sounds like Banner was a good hire by our new owner.

Here's another nice article. It's a Q&A between Banner and Nate Ulrich. Quite informative.

Here's a snippet:
Quote:
Q: How do you view the roster?
A: “I think there’s a foundation in place to move forward. I think there’s some good, young players here. I do think there’s a ways to go in terms of starting to talk about winning the division, advancing through the playoffs, winning championships. There are young players we need to take time to see what they’re gonna be. We have a projection but you don’t know. But I’ve seen people take over a franchise in which you looked at the roster and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God. There’s nothing here to build on.’ This is not the case here. Exactly how many of those players we can build on, exactly how good some of the younger players are gonna be, some of that we have to project, some of that time will tell. But this is certainly not one of those situations where you look at the roster and you’re kind of like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m just starting from scratch here. Or what am I gonna do and how long is this gonna take?’ There’s clearly a foundation of players that you can start to add to and move forward from as opposed to needing to get to begin with.”

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2012/11/cleveland_browns_ceo_joe_banne_1.html

Great Q&A with MKC
Answers how he looks for personnel, answers about Weeden's future, answers about relationship with Heckart, Shurmer, and Reid. Calls Mike Lombardi rumer, unfounded and wild speculation.

Overall a good read, sorry for the mobile link I do most of my surfing on my space phone. [edit: changed the link for you]
