Mine lasted 3 years. Good picture, good colors, not so good quality. _________________

Yeah, you are going to have a tough time getting a quality TV at that size for that amount. Thats a tall order.
On that note, my father in law landed himself a 60" Vizio from Sams for 600. They sent out 50 tickets for 10 TVs. First 10 in the door with the ticket got the TV for that price. He made it in.
My wife said it takes up the whole wall (smaller home). Its ridiculous. _________________

60"... Ha
I had a 65" in a small house, and then in an apartment. I'm watching a 73" now. _________________

Keep your receipt. LG may have the worst quality control of any electronics company. When you get a good one, it's going to be really good. Problem is you only have a 50/50 shot at that. It's a good price, but keep an eye on things. |
I got a two-year warranty on it. (Only 5 bucks). I've been told repeatedly that LG is actually pretty good? |
They are good, but only about half the time. They make good products, but have no quality control to prevent the bad ones from getting out.
I have a friend that's an electronics engineer. LG brought him in as a consultant on a few things. When he was leaving the building, he called me and said to never buy an LG product. He said their QC was nonexistent, and they had really bad practices. I've owned a few of their products, and I won't even consider them again. I also know people that bought some stuff, and it's been nothing but good for them.
The warranty was a very good idea. |
I've heard this before. I must have gotten lucky with my TV. LG 32 inch. Had it for four years now.
Definitely makes me not want to buy LG, though.
Makes sense, though. I bought an LG Blu Ray player a couple years back, it lasted maybe 10 movies and then got the yellow light of death or whatever it's called. (Can't remember) _________________

I've never had a problem with mine, but considering what sort of prices you can find for other, more "respected" name-brands, there really isn't any reason to get a Westinghouse. I don't know if they've gotten better in the last few years since I got mine, but mine really lacks a lot of features that you can get with other brands. So even though mine has good picture quality and hasn't had any issues mechanically (so, completely fine for my purposes), you can pay a little extra money and get a whole lot more TV from a different brand. _________________

most of these cyber monday deals on newegg and tiger direct were refurbished TVs. I don't know if buying one is really a good idea. _________________

Depends on the brand. Most referbs come with a new warranty. When they do the referb, they replace any bad parts, and verify that everything works. It's usually a safer bet than an open box TV. _________________

Wal-Mart is horrible... Now they are telling me the item was never in stock. They weren't supposed to take the money out of my account, but did anyway; now they want me to wait 3-5 business days to get back my money. The same money they took out for no reason.
Yeah, No. Consider this the last time we go there... Nothing but problems from Wal-Mart... _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

I've had one since 2006, and have had no issues with it aside from slight image burn. Entirely my fault though for when I've left games paused on it for hours.
I did buy a new one about a month ago, and had to return it due to the image being quite lackluster compared to the display models. Yes, I had everything hooked up properly. It was more of an impulse buy at the time, I usually look at reviews and such before purchasing. |
