daddy's shopping for a 46" flat screen as a gift. choices are...

Samsung LED 1080p 120 Hz -- $649 (reduced $330)
Sharp LCD 1080p 60Hz -- $499 (reduced $130)
Insignia LED 1080p 120Hz -- $549 (reduced $80)

Samsung and I wouldn't think twice about it. The quality is better than Insignia but if the Sharp were LED and not LCD, I'd consider that but it's not so I wouldn't consider anything aside from the Samsung.

This is assuming price isn't too much of a factor and my guess is that it's not due to what you're looking at Smile

Just noticed the Sharp isn't an LED, and the others are. It does make a difference. LED's are going to be brighter, and sharper. The colors are going to look better too.

ok, so if we knock out the lesser quality Insignia, we are left with:

Samsung LED 1080p 120 Hz -- $649 (reduced $330)
Sharp LCD 1080p 60Hz -- $499 (reduced $130)

the Samsung LED is $150 more than the Sharp LCD, is it worth that much more for LED? and will the Samsung's 120Hz rate make it a "poorer" set to watch than a 60Hz, so to speak?

no, price is always a consideration. and that's my question -

the Samsung might undeniably be a better set, but is it worth $150 more than the Sharp?

Anyone know of any reasonable deals on DVD players? Wife and I were looking for a cheap Blu-Ray if we could find one, but the best was around $80.

We'd be pleased with just a nice DVD player, perhaps something that plays in 1080p.

Anyone find any deals for one around $40-50?

Wal-Mart has a refurbished Vizio Blu-Ray player online for $40. They also have a few other new BRD players for $50-$60

Are Vizio good quality?

I have a few in my house. I get compliments on the picture quality of my 50" in the living room all the time. People are like, "Damn thats clear."

That question is really up to you. They both make great TV's, but it's only worth it if you can see the difference. You're going to get a good TV with either.

Keep your receipt. LG may have the worst quality control of any electronics company. When you get a good one, it's going to be really good. Problem is you only have a 50/50 shot at that. It's a good price, but keep an eye on things.

I got a two-year warranty on it. (Only 5 bucks). I've been told repeatedly that LG is actually pretty good? Think

They are good, but only about half the time. They make good products, but have no quality control to prevent the bad ones from getting out.

I have a friend that's an electronics engineer. LG brought him in as a consultant on a few things. When he was leaving the building, he called me and said to never buy an LG product. He said their QC was nonexistent, and they had really bad practices. I've owned a few of their products, and I won't even consider them again. I also know people that bought some stuff, and it's been nothing but good for them.

The warranty was a very good idea.

Dont judge a TV by viewing it in the store!! Often the screen's arent calibrated correctly or get messed up by people messing with settings. As for brands it doesnt really matter, most tv's are made in the same factories with the same parts. Go for whatever gives you the better deal and don't buy into this brand name mentality.

I need a new TV so badly, but am on a really, really small budget. Difference between 720p and 1080? I'm a college student, and this TV is really only to get me through the next few years.

If its a smaller screen not much, if its a larger screen youll be able to tell a difference. Also dont forget to look at the refresh rate

I agree.. To me the extra money is worth a brand I trust, especially Samsung

Its made in the exact same factories as the cheaper brands, same capacitors, same likelyhood of equipment failure. Your paying for a name.

Wow. Just wow!

The Blu-Ray player I ordered apparently isn't at the store I selected. I wanted it shipped to my house to begin with, but it wouldn't let me choose that option. Wal-Mart has cancelled my order, but I havn't been refunded on my debit card yet... Rolling Eyes

Why the hell would they allow me to order that Blu-Ray Player nearly 3 hours ago, if it wasn't even in that store to begin with? Think
