Hey guys I have a question for you.
I have a Sony VIAO labtop, about two years old. It won't boot up. The screen turns on, shows the VIAO logo and then resets and starts the process all over again. I can't press F8 either to run it in safe mode or last known good configuration. Have done a restore complete system on the VAIO recovery center and ran a hardware scan that didn't come up with any errors.
I don't have a recovery disc for the Windows Operating system though so that's one thing I haven't tried.
Any ideas of what my problem may be? _________________

Sounds like something with the hard drive. The hard drive itself might be fine but some connection to it or power supply might be bad. _________________

Cheap fix? Or would I be better off purchasing a new one? _________________

Well after 2 years, that sounds normal if you've been using it excessively. HDs are super cheap at places like tiger direct.com or new egg. IF it was the HD, and I were you, I would buy an external enclosure, take out your HD from the Vaio and pop it in there to get all your key files you want.
Then, buy a new HD (you're talking maybe $50-$60) and transfer the old files to the new HD and start fresh. I've done it a few times in the past and that's how I keep it going.
If it's a power supply, that's about $35 most likely.
If it's HD, with the new enclosure you're looking at about $100 in repairs.
So, it's up to you if you want a new one or a replacement. _________________

The prospect thread is probably the right place for it.

| This computer is officially on crack. I was going to click on our forum when I noticed something wasn't like the rest. There was no user name by who posted last in the Vikings forum and it listed the last post as - Wed Dec 31, 1969 8:00 pm- So I start thinking... Did we blow up the Vikings Forum?? I click on it, nope still there. So. Much. Disappoint. |
