As a Chiefs fan its become painfully obvious for years now that QB is a huge need. Plenty of fans are clamoring for a first round selection, but with the pool not as good as last years there's been a lot of talk of doubling down like the Redskins did last year. In fact some people are saying forego a 1st rounder and just draft Klein.
A name repeatedly brought up is Collin "Optimus" Klein. Not exactly shocking since he plays for KSU, but he's got a lot of fans. I don't watch KSU games at all, but the highlights seem legit. Of course he is an option running QB, and that throwing motion is wonky, not Tebow bad but different like Rivers.
So what do you think? He got any shot in the pros? _________________

The best tackler I've seen since Joe Montana. _________________

IF the Chiefs aren't enamored with any of the top 3 (Smith, Wilson, Barkley) and decide to go in another direction with their top pick (likely a top 5), then they could decide to target E.J. Manuel either at the top of the second round (assuming the Chiefs are in the top 5 picks of round 2) or move up a couple of spots back into the bottom of the first round and grab Manuel there.
He is going to have a chance to sink or swim in offseason workouts and I am interested in seeing how he does in the Senior Bowl if he plays.
Again, IF the Chiefs decide to pass on the big three, I would hope they would try to trade down a couple of spots (easier said than done I know) to acquire additional picks. The key will be accepting there is no Luck or RGIII type of prospect that will bring trade partners calling. With that being said if they can have realistic expectations in a trade down scenario they could move down, grab a quality player and still have a shot at a quarterback like Manuel.
I am not saying I necessarily think this will happen, but depending on who targets a quarterback, maybe just maybe Matt Barkley "slides" and is on the board in the middle of round 1 - that might be an option for a trade up scenario for the Chiefs.
Klein is a big time project and I don't think we have the luxury of having him sit and learn. _________________

No not at all. He'll never be a NFL QB. Maybe try at TE. _________________

You're talking about a guy whose ceiling is Alex Smith, and floor is Tim Tebow without the following. _________________

I think he's got better arm strength then Alex Smith...
But no chance? That's what I was thinking. _________________

Change of pace QB, if there ever is such a thing. Run mostly read option looks with him and every once in a while have him throw the ball. But I dont think he is ever a drop back, throw the ball 35 times quarterback in the NFL. _________________

Klein is interesting. He reminds me a lot of Tebow, passing wise. More potential though, I think. _________________

Interesting comparison because I think he's an odd combination of Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. Has Kaps slow delivery (Although not as bad of a wind up) and the ball when it leaves his hand, it looks like a pass from Alex Smith. He's also got Kaps size but isn't as fast... |

Painfully slow delivery, especially after being graced with watching Andrew Luck and Rivers' deliveries (live in Cal). He's better than Tebow, at least. _________________

It was mind blowing that Tebow went in the 1st but IMO it was more for who he was than what he could become as a football player. _________________

He's a backup tight end at best. Doesn't have the skill to play quarterback or the size and speed to be a starting tight end. |
