Where it all went wrong?
While everyone is focusing in on our team’s capitulation this season. It has in fact been a slow process since the Super Bowl appearance. The drafts from 2005 to 2008 should make up the majority of our roster. Those players would be in their fifth to eighth season in the NFL, and would have the experience to spread along the roster.
2005 - 3 players still on Eagles roster, 2 players still in the NFL and 6 players out of the NFL
Mike Patterson
Reggie Brown
Matt McCoy
Ryan Moats
Sean Considine
Todd Herremans
Trent Cole
Scott Young
Calvin Armstrong
Keyonta Marshall
David Bergeron
In the whole, not a bad draft. We have two mainstays of our lines in Herremans and Cole along with Patterson who, while hasn’t been explosive, has started a load of games. Brown started a number of games, while McCoy, Moats and Considine all got given their chance.
2006 – 1 player still on Eagles roster, 3 players starting elsewhere, 1 player still in the NFL and 3 players out of the NFL
Brodrick Bunkley
Winston Justice
Chris Gocong
Max Jean-Giles
Jason Avant
Jeremy Bloom
Omar Gaither
LaJuan Ramsey
This draft annoys me, we have our first 3 picks starting for other teams. The only player still on our roster is the ever reliable, but pedestrian Avant. Jean-Giles and Gaither both started a number of games for us.
2007 – 1 player still on Eagles roster, 1 player starting elsewhere, 1 player still in the NFL and 5 players out of the NFL
Kevin Kolb
Victor Abiamiri
Stewart Bradley
Tony Hunt
CJ Gaddis
Brent Celek
Rashad Barksdale
Nate Ilaoa
This draft is among everyone’s least favourites. Kolb is (when he’s not injured) the starter out in Arizona, Celek is obviously our starting TE and Bradley, despite having a promising start with us, is now buried in the depth chart at Arizona.
2008 - 3 players still on Eagles roster, 2 players starting elsewhere, 3 players still in the NFL and 2 players out of the NFL
Trevor Laws
Desean Jackson
Bryan Smith
Mike McGlynn
Quintin Demps
Jack Ikegwuonu
Mike Gibson
Joe Mays
Andy Studebaker
King Dunlap
The most recent draft seems to have the most success. Jackson everyone knows, while Gibson and Dunlap are technically on our roster. McGlynn is starting at RG for Indy and Mays was until recently the starting MIKE for Denver. Laws, Demps and Studebaker are all still on rosters. The Bryan Smith pick still hurts and started a run of poor 3rd round picks.
Summary
So to summarise, the poor drafting (and trading away/releasing those players that were solid) caused us to get away from what we were good at - developing our players. This caused us to gamble on those free agents, who didn't have the unity that teams in the past has had. This has resulted in Reid's likely dismissal.

Its two things - did we draft poorly? Sometimes, but then even the best do.
The fact that there are more players starting on other teams we drafted then starting for us is very worrying. _________________

The amount of starters we got wasn't too bad, but the lack of high end talent is. Couple of good, but no elite players, well maybe Trent. _________________

i dont get this logic. i mean there are thousands of variables that come into play with this. you have scheme or that cutting him got the boost that they needed to try harder or there new coach needed a different kind of coaching we offer or, or, or, or
just because played better with a different team doesnt mean that we didnt do a good job. _________________

There are a couple nice names in those list, but whenever I look, I have to remind myself that we actually drafted some of these guys. A ton of them aren't in the league anymore. Not a good sign. _________________

evaluating talent yes, developing no.
how many players have actually left and become real quality starters? every team will have players that leave and do better somewhere else but how many have we lost and we really missed? _________________

Chris Gocong, Kevin Kolb, Winston Justice, Brodrick Bunkley, Danny Amendola, Brandon Gibson.
We don't develop anyone, the majoriy of our "talent" are signed free agents[DRC, Nnamdi, DeMeco, Jenkins, Babin, Peters, Mathis, Vick, Landri, Tapp] and the players we did draft, we haven't done a good job developing{Watkins, Maclin, Avant, Coleman, Allen, Marsh, Jordan, Matthews, Hunt].
We're equally as bad at evaluating talent as we are developing the talent. _________________

Of the players you listed that have had "success" elsewhere due to not being developed here, only two are valid examples. _________________

but really kevin kolb you wished we had kept? bunkley is doing the same thing he did with us, he didnt magically get better when he left. danny was on our practice squad for what...one off season? gibson was traded. he wasnt not developed, he was traded.
and just because people havent devolved doesnt mean we are doing a bad job of it.
we have cole, mccoy, celek, and jackson all have become really good. _________________
