| Tommorow night at 8:00 pm EST, I believe, NFL network will be airing "A Football Life" featuring Jimmy Johnson. I just thought with all the talk about head coaches and Jerry Jones and who might go and who might stay, should we give up on Romo, should we draft a QB, OL, whatever, that this program may offer some insight into exactly what is missing from this team. Sort of a "Compare & Contrast" scenario. What do you think? |

If they mention anything about the current Cowboys, I bet it will be very quick and a generic question. It will mostly be about the U, the success of the 90's, the epic battle between Jimmy and Jerry, and male enlargement pills. |

Perhaps my introduction was a bit misleading, my apologies. I was suggesting that we, on this site, could watch it and come back with some scenarios, suggestions or ideas that would compare today's franchise with that of the 90's. Use facts and info from the program with facts that we have posted thus far this year. |

I have to watch it. Seeing some of the previews brought back memories of Jimmy's "my way or the highway" approach like when some place kicker in training camp complained about asthma. Jimmy told him to go practice on the asthma field. Then he cut him. Classic.
I will always remember Jimmy overlooking personal transgressions if you delivered on Sunday. His teams had a real sense of team as well. Great times to be a Cowboy fan.

The asthma field is LEGENDARY. We still talk about it over 2 decades later.

i DVR'd it and it was freakin awesome.....he was the MAN.......he was cool,tough,mean,confident and like you said a great MOTIVATOR......pretty much everything the cowboys have LACKED since he ummmm.....left......hmmmm

It wasn't enough for him to be the guy who hired the person who built the team and sign off on checks, he wanted to be a part of building the team.

Certainly it was/is Jerry's objective to get more involved in the day to day operations and, as was said on the show have some of the glory. However a good leader plays to his strengths, and hires specialists to handle areas where he, the owner, may not be as knowledgable. Hopefully this comes full circle and Jerry realizes that player evaluation is just not his focal point. I doubt it though.

Yeah, I remember reading (or maybe it was from last night) that Jerry and jimmy had a conversation that the media (and fans) cared more about signing or drafting the second string guard more than anything Jerry did as the owner and he desperately wanted to be a part in that discussion.
But, I agree with you... I think all of us would be the happiest person in the world to sit back and watch it all happen.

| Jerry truly exposed himself again 2 years ago. When Wade decided to go full time as a D coordinator and JG was O coordinator. He said he wanted all along to have the Dallas Cowboys to be like this. Well that to me says he wanted to be known as the Owner/President/GM and COACH. |

I remember Jimmy saying how he hated that role because he negotiated Co.tracts with players and had to sell them on how they weren't that good then turn right around and try to convince them how good they were as a coach on the field. I seem to recall him giving up that role in 91 or so but could be wrong

That's probably true cause I vaguely remember reading a sports illustrated article where Jimmy was getting frustrated by Jerry not signing hold out players before camp started.
