I thought there might have been a thread on him but I couldn't find it. At the urging of some other people, I decided to check out some games of Wheaton. Wow is all I can say. Oregon State fans, you were right. This guy is the most underrated WR in CFB. Here's a little prospect profile:
Name: Markus Wheaton
Position: WR
Number: 2
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 182
2012 Receiving Stats: 54 receptions, 787 yards and 8 TDs
2011 Receiving Stats: 73 receptions, 986 yards and 1 TD
What I saw:
Positives:
-Blazing Speed and Great Burst(beat De'Anthony Thomas in the 100M last May)
-Extremely Quick Feet
-Strong Hands
-Body Control
-Attacks the ball away from his body effectively
-Great field awareness
-Tracks the ball extremely well
-Can slip some tackles with the ball in his hands
-Effort and motor is there
-Not afraid to make tough catches in traffic
Negatives:
-Slight build
-Lacks strength
-Route running is raw despite the quick feet
-Willing but ineffective blocker for the most part
-Some small durability concerns
-Needs to do a better job of keeping his feet on deep balls
NFL Player Comparison: Marvin Harrison
I know Harrison is high praise and Wheaton isn't close to that level yet. But he has very similar tools to Harrison. His route running needs to really improve before he can reach Harrison status but he shows the quick feet and ability to turn around and embarrass defenders needed. The technique just isn't there yet. Doesn't sink his hips, doesn't really plant well and tends to drift on routes. With a good NFL WR Coach, that can all be easily fixed.
Physically, despite not being the biggest guy on the field, he has it all. He can beat you on any type of route, he has extremely strong hand and consistently makes contested catches and has the ability to separate in both short areas and on deep routes. I think the only reason why he's not getting more press is because of where he plays and his QB situation.
If Wheaton was playing at West Virginia, Baylor or USC, he'd be one of if not the top WR prospect in this draft. If Wheaton runs a 4.3 like I expect him to, he's a 1st round talent easy unless there are medical or character red flags. He's getting overshadowed by all the athletes and talented WRs in this class but he really shouldn't be. If you haven't had a chance to see Wheaton play, I recommend finding some games to watch of him because he'll impress you. When you find a guy with his speed and agility that is able to pluck the ball from the air and make contested catches in traffic consistently, you don't let those guys get away. Wheaton is my new mancrush. _________________

| i will say that he needs to run straight ahead more. he wastes a lot of time running side to side and sometimes doesn't get all the yards he should |

I know Givens who was somewhat similar fell that far but it's just hard for me to see a guy with his speed going that late. _________________

2012's version of TY Hilton? I like it
After you made that request, I did some research on him as well. I actually got another sig request for this guy too believe it or not.
Wheaton, I love him. Dude is legit. I have him as a mid-2nd Round pick right now. If he does run fast. He could creep into the Early 2nd-Late 1st. Can't wait to see. _________________

Thomas was ahead for the first 60m but Wheaton pulled ahead for 2nd place.
