Well it sure cant get any worse. I wonder if he has total control over game planning/utilization or if he is just a puppet during the week who calls the plays on game day.
I hope its the first... _________________

Wow, yet another failed decision that Pioli could have avoided ever needing to tried to undo in the middle of a lost season.

I don't think he handled dual roles very well, obviously. Then again, if he now spends more time with the offense, it may get worse _________________

Crennel not being able to handle dual roles was a problem that just about every fan in this forum saw the second it was announced that Crennel would handle HC and DC responsibilities. What has Crennel shown in the past to make anyone believe that he could handle the HC role exclusively LET ALONE DC responsibilities as well??!!
Again, we (most posters in here) saw this from day one.
This is a week where Pioli is forced to admit two offseason decisions he has made (Crennel HC/DC and Routt being signed) were nothing less than utter failures. _________________

Now Pioli is going to try to make it seem like Romeo is not the problem, but that the real problem is that Romeo had too many jobs to do.....lots of head coaches call plays (for either offense or defense) the problem is Romeo is a clueless head coach. |

Pioli's getting there, he's just a little slower than most of the more knowledgeable fans.
He cut Routt who he had thot was a better deal than Carr...we didn't think he was a better bargain than Carr in the first place
Romeo is relieved of his dual role. What us fans thought was too much for an unproven HC.
Yet one of our posters called this guy a genius, with more football knowledge in his pinky than any of us will ever have. _________________

In highschool we had a running back that spent more time running from sideline to sideline rather then endzone to the other endzone.
I guess my point is this move reminds me of that running back. Its not the right direction and its not really wrong either but it's something I guess. _________________

Hey, we got Shaun Smith back though. That's gotta count for something right? _________________

Now watch with these changes the Chiefs will prolly start winning games now since its the second half and doesn't mattter. Then we will be out of the race for a QB.... |

Was it Pioli's choice to have Crennel split duties or was it Crennel who said that's hat he wants?
If Crennel was adamant about fulfilling both roles then I could excuse Pioli's slightly as I'm sure he didn't wanna micromanage after being called a KGBesque micromanager in the off season.
Can't resolve all blame as Crennel was his choice so we shall see which heads will roll at the end |

As GM Pioli is supposed to know that both roles would be a bad idea. If Crennel demanded to do both, then so be it, we get someone else to be the HC. You don't get bullied by a subordinate.
This could have been mitigated some upfront as well by adding an extra defensive coach, and named Gibbs assistant HC and let him focus on game planning, and Crennel could still call plays.
Pioli did neither, so this failure is on him, because as he says, ultimately the buck stops with him. _________________

I'm actually quite impressed that Crennell is willing to do this. _________________

The timing of this move makes total sense to me. Crennel wants to avoid all blame when Todd Haley's offense smokes the Chiefs defense. Make Gibbs' defense be the one that gets smoked by Haley. Romeo can claim he had nothing to do with the defensive play calling. |
