Florence can be activated next week, Greenwood either will be activated or put on IR this week. We will be ok. Routt just hasn't been good, ever really. He had moments but he is the Alphonso Smith type that QBs gameplan towards. |
Chiefs fans seem pretty confused by his release, despite his big paycheck he's due for. I think he's always been an above average corner. Psychically he's pretty much a prototype (obviously, being an Al Davis pick) and can match up with pretty much everyone. I think you're right with he has some Smith like tendencies but his talents can take him a lot further than Smith's. For a veteran minimum type deal why not bring in another healthy body? |
I kinda doubt he makes it past the waiver process, several teams out there have injuries in the secondary that he could help ease.

He was saying he wasn't playing great, he wasn't calling him bad.

I think he has played much better than I thought he would and has seen much improvement since earlier in the pre-season/season.
I think he did well last game and I'm happy with what we have in him. However, he is a rookie and I would rather bring on a veteran who is average to above average at minimal cost. This would allow us to bring on Green slower than what he has been thrown into.
I would like to sign him but if we wait until Florence is back I'm okay with that too. I would rather have a reliable veteran to bring on Green slowly or at least have a decent backup if Green regresses or really starts to struggle.
I could be wrong and I guess it doesn't really make sense to "bring him on slowly" if we threw him in and he is doing better each week but I would be happy if we brought Routt.
I will gladly eat crow though if we pass on Routt and stick with Green and he continues to improve and impress. I would just be more comfortable with a healthy body besides Lacey as a backup.

Basically ya. I'm on the fence. I don't want to get my hopes up. Green hasn't been lights out but he hasn't been god awful either. I like that he is improving.

But it's perfectly reasonable to think the way you explained it out. I don't want to crown Green a future HoFer or even ignore the CB position in the off season because of him either, I just want people to get over their biases from the pre season and judge him for what he has done in games that matter.

Since Green has started, he's dine everything you'd ask for in a number 2 CB. Shoot, I think he's almost outplayed Houston who I love and want as our number 1 guy long term.
With that said, I'd still bring in Routt who only has a 1.2M dollar salary this year that we'd only be responsible for half of. And although our pass rush isn't making any goos plays, it's been good enough to help our our secondary. Florence, Routt and Houston should give this secondary plenty of experience to where we're not totally miserable at times.
