The only time they're acceptable is for safeties.
Corners should get 20s. _________________

#81 looks awesome on Hernandez. So much better than his old number.
And corners in the 30s is better than wide receivers in the 10s. _________________

18 is the only acceptable teen for a WR as there is an 8 in it. AJ Green looks good in it. Then again, so does 11 IMO (totally going against my own rule there)
All CB's should be in the 20's _________________

I'll never understand why some people make such a big deal (or care at all) about the number that is on a player's jersey.
I also don't understand how a number can look "better" than another. |

I think (hope ) you're being facetious, but that would be a really silly reason to like or dislike a number.
The 2 guys to wear #81 before Moss? Bethel Johnson and Donald Hayes. |

People associate numbers with certain things from all aspects of life.
I'm sure people add values to the numbers their favourite players wear even if it has nothing to do with football. _________________

Moral of the story: Talib is gonna suck massively. _________________

A number is just a number though. The average NFL team dresses what, 60-65 guys throughout the course of the year? Given the number restrictions and retired numbers, jersey numbers get recycled very quickly. I've probably seen some of these numbers worn by 20+ guys in my time as a Pats fan.
I can see rare exceptions when you're talking about a guy like Brady, or in other local sports Orr, Bourque, Williams, Yaztresmski, Bird etc. Guys who are literally the best ever or close to it and are icons in the city for an entire generation. But they get their numbers retired anyway.
But when you're talking about guys who spend 3 or 4 years (or fewer) with the team? Who cares?
To each their own. But if I thought a number "looked bad" because some player I disliked or a player who sucked wore it for a year or two, well there wouldn't be many numbers left. |

That's a good bet but it will have nothing to do with what number he wears |

I suppose as well that a number is one of the few things that differentiate layers on the field.
When everyone is wearing the same jersey and the same helmet there are only things like race, and long hair to differentiate.
I suppose seeing Talib wearing 31 will remind some of Sergio Brown and of course, since we are used to seeing #31 in the Pats secondary giving up big plays, provides a bad omen. _________________

Here are the players who have worn 31 for the Pats dating back to 1970
DB Sergio Brown [2011]
DB Brandon Meriweather [2007-2010]
DB Antwan Spann [2006]
RB Amos Zereoue [2005]
FB Larry Centers [2003]
DB Ben Kelly [2001-2002]
DB Kato Serawanga [1999-2000]
DB Jimmy Hitchcock [1995-1997]
DB Fred Marion [1982-1991]
RB Leon McQuay [1975]
RB Josh Ashton [1972-1974]
Let's hope he's more like Marion, or at least Hitchcock, than Brown/Spann/Meriweather/Kelly.
Shut up, I'm bored. _________________

I was only an NFL fan from 2007 and a Pats fan since 2009.
Don't bang on about all these elderly people to me.
Just kidding, I respect the history, I just don't know any of it _________________

Well, Marion was before my time, too [just barely], but evidently he was the best safety to play for the team until Lawyer Milloy. _________________
