Free Agency

Geoff Schwartz #76 T/G Minnesota Vikings
Height: 6-6 Weight: 340 Age: 26
Born: 7/11/1986 Los Angeles , CA
College: Oregon
Experience: 4th season
The Browns get a road grading guard and a back up right tackle in the form of Mitchel Schwartz's "BIG" brother. Unless I have missed it it is unknown if Pinkston will come back. This gives the browns depth at both OG and OT and competition for an interior guard position as a starter.

Sean Smith #24 CB Miami Dolphins
Height: 6-3 Weight: 218 Age: 25
Born: 7/14/1987 Pasadena , CA
College: Utah
Experience: 4th season
Finally the Browns have a big physical corner in Smith, and someone that can actually play proper technique besides Haden and not get penalties. Skrine and Brown.

Glover Quin #29 S Houston Texans
Height: 6-0 Weight: 207 Age: 26
Born: 1/15/1986 McComb , MS
College: New Mexico
Experience: 4th season
A converted CB that has been good in coverage as well as run support, Browns offer more money than the Texans. At long last a FS that won't get his doors blown off.

1 Damontre Moore*, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
Height: 6-4. Weight: 250.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Moore has been one of the most consistent pass-rushers in college football this season and is one of the nation's leaders with 12.5 sacks. Moore also leads his team with 74 tackles. He has 20 tackles for a loss, two passes broken up, a blocked kick and a forced fumble.

3 Zach Ertz*, TE, Stanford
Height: 6-6. Weight: 255.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Ertz has totaled 38 receptions for 566 yards and four touchdowns. Ertz has improved his blocking as well this year.

4 Andrew Jackson*, ILB, Western Kentucky
Height: 6-1. Weight: 255.
Projected 40 Time: 4.67.
Jackson has totaled 97 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and four forced fumbles so far this season. Kid is a heat seeking missile on D and blows up folks in the hole. IMO can play 43 MLB and SOLB.

5 Micah Hyde, CB, Iowa
Height: 6-1. Weight: 185.
Projected 40 Time: 4.51.
Hyde hurt his stock with an arrest during Iowa's bye week. It was a minor drinking incident, but the NFL won't like it. He has 56 tackles, 11 passes broken up, a forced fumble and zero interceptions this year. Just BPA here and taking a chance on a kid. Could be a FS convert or depth at CB or just an ST player.

6 Zach Boren, FB, Ohio State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 252.
Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
Better lead blocker than Alex Smith IMO and can play LB on ST as well. A power runner needs a good lead blocker to increase his effectiveness and longevity IMO.

7 Quinn Sharp, P/K, Oklahoma State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 205.
Punter to replace Hodges and competition/insurance for the long in tooth Phill the drill.

Projected Starting Preseason Roster with competition at some spots indicated by a "/".

QB Weeden
RB Richardson
FB Boren/Smith
TE Watson/Ertz/Jordan
WR1 Gordon
WR2 Little
WR3 Cooper/Benjamin
LT Thomas
LG Greco
C Mack
RG Lauvao/G.Schwartz
RT M.Schwartz

RDE Moore
RDT Rubin
LDT Taylor
LDE Sheard
SOLB Gocong/Johnson/A.Jackson
MLB D.Jackson/A.Jackson
WLB D.Jackson/Johnson
RCB Smith
LCB Haden
NB&DB Skrine/Wade
FS Quin
SS Ward

P Sharp
K Dawson/Sharp

KR/PR Benjamin

I love this off season. The FA is actually realistic. I love Smith's play at corner and pairing the Schwartz brothers would be a really good combination. Draft is stellar. Im pretty sure we have another 7th? I could be wrong. I love the TE in the 3rd round too. 6'6 at that position seems to be the way to go.

Addressing FS and CB through FA is obviously the key here....
Picking up Schwartz would be excellent.

I wouldn't mind bringing back Norwood, if only to compete in camp.

I like Moore.. Give the brown two similar pass rushing DEs to rush the QB.
- my only issue is that I like Rucker better than JMJ/maivia and I have Te'o and j. Jones (if medically cleared) rated higher than Moore right now.... Of course Moore is a great pick, but just a difference of opinion. Wink

Ertz would be great, and I think sharp is a very smart pick.

Im not a fan of A. Jackson... Might be my only real complaint with the draft picks.
Depth at LB this is an issue for me.... And You have D. Jackson starting at both Mike and Will. Haha Wink

Also, if we can re-sign Cribbs or Brown for real cheap, I'd do it.

Cribbs is still a guy that demands respect on ST. Note that most of Dallas' punts were angled out of bounds to not allow for a return.

As bad as Brown gets burnt sometimes, he would be nice to have for cheap. He is physical and has been around for a long time. A nice vet to have.

No I have D.Jackson competing at 2 different spots. As for depth besides the 4 LB's competing for 3 jobs. Miavia fort and Robinson would round out the depth. I only listed guys that i thought would compete for a job.

Oh and a question. If you like Te'o so much, how come your not a A.Jackson fan as they are similar prospects in style and play and size only Te'o is much better in coverage and probably faster. The both get down hill quick in ether blowing up the run or blitzing the passer. Coverage ability is the biggest difference.

Yeah you are probably right but it is his off season. We do have a lot of money to spend. Somehow I do think we will add a safety, corner, def. end and a t.e. I look at early off seasons whether they fill our glaring needs. This off season does.

I just don't think he will even get to FA being he is the reason they let vontae Davis go, and with him their secondary isn't great, can't imagine without him

Ive seen more of Te'o produce at a high level against high level competition... from what Ive seen of A. Jackson has been against weeker opponets and he has not stood out enough for me. But I admit I have not seen a large amount of his games either....

Coverage is an issue, but who knows what scheme the Browns will run next season... anyways Question

I know that this might be hopeful with this scenario, but I truly think we could end up trading down and draft Te'o, as well as pick up a second. I truly believe we could get barkley in the second. I love weeden, don't get me wrong, but I see him as a QB w/o much upside, which Barkley has more, IMO.

I like Moore
I like Zach Ertz but he won't be around in the 3rd
Don't care for Jackson
Don't care for Hyde
Don't care for Boren
Don't care for Sharp
I think its dumb to let Norwood walk when all we need to do is tender him.

norwood spends to much time on IR. IMO money should be spent on players that are on the field.

why Sharp is a pretty good punter that is a kicker as well. IF he fills 2 ST positions and free's up roster spot too. that is worth a lot IMO.

Boren has been a very good FB for 3 years. Meyers Offence doesn't feature a FB so the kid found a way to contribute on D as the starting MLB. What's not to like?

Hyde- I just saw a tall rangy corner in the 5th and pulled the trigger as developmental guy.

Jackson- is going to be a force as a LB, he has some very good game tape vs SEC teams. The kid can defend the run and blitz the passer very well. he isn't the best guy in coverage but that part of the game is the reason he is a 4th rounder.

As there are only 31 picks in this years 2nd round Ertz isn't falling only to about 65th overall in my mock.
