I think of the players you have listed right now I would probably prefer one of the following and I would at the moment rank them in this order:
Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State
Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame
Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State
Sam Montgomery, DE/OLB, LSU
Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M
Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU
Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
I think a lot of this will depend on who is coaching the Browns next year and what their defensive philosophy is. I am really hoping we stay with the 4-3 as I think the players we currently have are best suited for that style D. |

The only DEs starting to stand out to me are Dion Jordan and Damontre Moore. At LB I like Manti Teo but could live without him too. Alec Olgetree actually has potential to be better than Teo IMO but again I can go either way there. At corner the 2 best I've watched by far are Jordan Poyer and Bradley Roby. I have not watched DeMarcus Milliner but I hear great things about him. A couple under the radar safteys I like are Shamarko Thomas and Phillip Thomas. Oh I also like Datone Jones DE of UCLA, however, he is another big power guy much lik Rucker and IMO we need speed.

DS, you left Rambo off the list. He should be on there.
On top of that, could some of you give me a break down of the top FS's in this class. I havn't paid much attention to them. I firmly believe that FS is top 2 in offseason needs. Either by draft for FA (and there's some good FA's) but I'd like to know more about the possible draftee's.

I have Rambo as a SS.
Well the FS list is a little different this year as there are several large CB's that could make awesome FS's ala Malcom Jenkins and Antrell Rolle.
Say Rhodes or Amerson for example.
But all the guys I listed are pretty good at playing centerfield and in man coverage as well.
If you'd want an elite FS I would look at converting a CB at the top of the draft IMO and that would be Rhodes and Amerson right now.

I have Rambo as a SS.

I think its unlikely a first round pick gets moved from CB to FS. A corner is much more highly valued in this league, and that would be a bit risky in the first round anyways. And usually, CB's only move to FS b/c they failed to live up to expectations at Corner. Usually the only other reason a CB starts at FS is if a players does poorly at flipping his hips and bad COD skills.
Both players you listed as conversions were CB's first. Then somewhat failed, then moved to FS. (Although, Rolle is still their slot CB, they bring in another FS instead of a nickel back)
So I'd like to know more about this classes FS's. The guys that play Safety right now. Not the conversion guys, since, IMO, thats not a likely option.
Guys like Reid, McDonald, Rambo (why do you have him as a SS?), Vaccaro, Jefferson, and Lester and so on. I want to know more about them.

Wrong
and even more Wrong.
Shamarko can play free or strong. I believe he is a SS now but has the range to play anywhere. In the NFL on most teams the FS and SS position are interchangable. Very few schemes anymore rely on having a true FS and SS. Shamarko has range and coverage skills to play FS.
Phillip Thomas is a senior for Fresno State this year. I don't know if Philadelphia drafted a Phillip Thomas or not, but it sure wasn't the Phillips Thomas I have watched more than once just this season.

I agree with this. But this is not what the Browns do.
As the offense switches the Strong side from left to right, so does the OLB's and Safety's for the Browns.
They want a true FS. Thus my asking of a breakdown of the FS's in this class.

I agree but at the same time I have very little faith the coaching staff is still here next year. It would be irresponsible to eliminate a guy from your draft board simply because he doesn't fit the scheme we run right now.

I thought you were talking Philip thomas from Syracuse, I have seen every game Shamarko has played since he was a freshman, he is more athletic than, but plays the exact same way as Ward does, He is a SS at the next level (a good one imo) but he is a down in the box safety, he can cover if need be but coverage is not the strength of his game
