I've given up on projecting which QBs will be any good because it's pretty much a crapshoot, but I'll be damned if this QB class is starting to impress me less and less.
Geno hasn't completely soured on me but he isn't helping himself lately. _________________

The plan should be too accumulate draft picks and take a flyer on a guy like Aaron Murphy or Landry Jones and then let whoever loses out between them an Gabbert be the backup. |
There's a reason teams trade so much for that pick, franchise QBs are very hard to come by. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea if you think there's another possible franchise QB to be had in the draft. But Landry Jones doesn't strike me as anything close to one. _________________

Would rather trade back, then take my chances with another year of Gabbert + a lot of talent on the DL and playmakers (potentially) in this draft...if all else fails, backup plan is Teddy Bridgewater, Brett Smith, Derek Carr, Fales, in 2014. _________________

Absolutely. That 2014 class at the top looks better than this 2013 class to me.
If we're going to try one more year of Gabbert though, i'd add that i want to see what happens if we work on building an NFL calibre O-Line for him to play behind. And it would be a darn handy thing to have around for a new QB in 2014 as well.
And i still would like to take a gamble on a 3rd round QB type.
Alternatively, heck, if for some reason a team like the Bills for example decided Fitzpatrick isn't the future and cut ties with him, i'd even think about giving him a 1-year trial run as a stop-gap to compete with Gabbert. Plenty of other teams could be in that situation as well. It wouldn't surprise me to see a few choices in the 'mediocre to subpar starter' category on the market. Dumpster diving QB tryouts. Not a long-term solution, but it could be alright for a year while we get other aspects of our team in order before we get our QB in 2014. |

Every single year, people think the next draft class is better for QBs than the current one at this point in the year. Last year it was "Sure, Luck is great, but if Barkley doesn't declare, this is going to be a weak group and next year will be great with Bray, Wilson and everyone else" the year before, the same thing. This time next year, we'll be talking about how weak that class is and how much better the 2015 class looks. _________________

Not saying next year's is better, but I will take an extra 3 top-3 round picks for another year of Gabbert, to give the next GM a better chance to build the roster...trade out this draft, get an extra 1 and 3 next year and get our new Coach, GM, and QB in 2014. _________________

Well if there is one thing you can't question about Gabbert, it's his toughness. _________________

I'm of the opinion that if you don't have a franchise QB and have the chance to get one, you have to draft him because you might not have that opportunity again. You just have to make sure that you're getting the right guy. _________________
