What if the Redskins had drafted differently in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL draft. It's not often a team gets to pick 3 times in the 2nd round of the draft. Imagine if instead of taking Devin Thomas, and Malcolm Kelly, we took any of these players picked in the 2nd/3rd round:
Brandon Flowers
Jordy Nelson
Curtis Lofton
Tracy Porter
Matt Forte
Desean Jackson
Ray Rice
Calais Campbell
Jamaal Charles
Just think about Charles in the backfield with RG3, and having Desean Jackson as a deep threat/returner |

We probably would not have been in the position to draft Griffin with all those guys on the team. This is how I keep my sanity when thinking about stuff like this. Drafting Kerrigan over Watt, Kelly over Jackson and Nelson, etc. It all happened for a reason: RG3! |

I think we still would have been in position to draft griffin because Rex/Beck were our qbs last year.
The guys I want out of the group are Brandon Flowers and Jordy Nelson. (a shut down cb and E's favorite wr from that draft) _________________

Ahh, hindsight. But remember one thing. Jordy Nelson is not the receiver he is without Rodgers. Them two working together in the same offense has really attributed to their success.
I would have selected Nelson and Charles instead of Thomas and Kelly. _________________

Yeah, I'm not saying we wouldn't have been able to draft Griffin when things would have went a little different, it's just my way of dealing with "bad" draft choices. It's not an exact science, but it works for me |

I would have selected Nelson and Charles instead of Thomas and Kelly. | nelson still makes tough catches for his qb. He's part of that also. He's better than anything we have. I'm trying to be realistic and in that draft we were going wr with our 1st pick- so I'd take Nelson. _________________

If we're going to go down this road again, how about we run the flipside? Let's say we don't trade down at all. Courtesy of Football's Future, our top three needs in 2008 were DL, WR, and OL.
I present to you highlights of the Alternate World 2008 NFL Draft:
1.21 (21) Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
2.20 (51) Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
3.21 (84) Craig Stevens, TE, California
3.33 (96) Chad Rinehart, OG, Northern Iowa
5.19 (154) Thomas Williams, LB, USC
6.20 (186) Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii
7.21 (228) Adrian Arrington, WR, Michigan
7.35 (242) Rob Jackson, DE, Kansas State
7.42 (249) Chris Horton, S, UCLA
Moral of the story: as bad as it was, it could also have been worse. |
