The Jets have informed their QBs that Greg McElroy is starting Sunday.

This is the right decision, moreso because of how bad Sanchez is, than how good McElroy is. But this is too little, too late and ultimately irrelevant with the Jets playoff hopes over and only 2 games left.

Now, will Sanchez be released when the year is over?

Yes about time they bench the bum. Next move cut him no matter what the cost is.

Appreciate the Jets doing this after they eliminated themselves from playoff contention...

It IS about time they bench him but i disagree with cutting him no matter the cost. If it's going to cost more to cut him then to keep him then why wouldn't they just keep him around as an experienced back up? No Jet fan will ever want to see Sanchez starting again so if they bring in a new rookie QB to start, there won't be pressure if he starts off badly.

It won't cost much, it is about $2.5 mil to cut him or so, but that isn't bad at all especially compared to the $9 mil + $2 mil roster bonus that he'd get next year. At those numbers he's gone for sure.

I believe you're incorrect actually. His entire 2013 base salary is guaranteed, with an additional $4-5m cap hit from bonus guaranteed money that gets accelerated to next year if he's cut. They signed Sanchez to an extension this past offseason and guaranteed his entire '12-'13 salaries after they tried to sign Peyton.

So it's something like $12.8m to keep him, $17m to dump him.

The cap hit to cut or trade him is enourmous, so Sanchez may just be the most expensive backup in the NFL next season.

Tebow is going to start next year and win games. Rex will never be able to explain how he told his owner to F off in favor of Sanchez and McElroy. He's done as a head coach in this league.

I have a bad feeling McElroy is going to get killed. What will the Jets do then...give the ball back to Sanchez?

Jets fans, Is it safe to say the Jets are looking to draft a QB again this year if McElroy doesn't cut it?

First, Jets will stick with McElroy for the last 2 games. Don't see them ever going back to Sanchez and they obviously don't see Tebow as a starter.

Second, Even if McElroy has a Matt Flynn type game/s, they should definitely be looking for QB help.

Either the draft or trade/FA. I hope we cut Tebow, retain Mark as it's more expensive to cut him and he's experienced and a good team guy. Then depending on how good/bad McElroy is sign a FA and draft someone or just draft someone.

Yes, messed up on the contract, he will be a jet for one more year, then cut when his number will drop in guarnateed money to nothing, for some reason I read the contract as having started in 2011 not 2012.
