Week Seven: The Maybe Get Better Out of the Bye/Start of Blow4Geno Edition?
Your Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4)
@
The Oakland Raiders (1-4)
Matchups to Watch For:
I was going to run through a list of things, pointing out how Maurice Jones Drew had to prove he could run against the Raiders' 18th rated rush defense, and how the Jaguars have their chance to step up and beat a team struggling to adjust to a zone blocking scheme, one that might be the worst rushing team in the league. I could bring up how the Raiders have one of the worst pass defenses and a pass rush that is very bit as bad as ours. I could talk about how all of this could give Blaine Gabbert the opportunity to have a very good performance coming out of the bye. I could talk about how the seemingly explosive Cecil Shorts III is getting a larger role in the offense against a team that he could possibly thrive against. I could bring up how Carson Palmer has been average, despite throwing the ball almost 40 times per game. I could bring up how the possible season debut of Daryl Smith could help get the team defense to start playing up to their potential, or how having Dawan Landry and Dwight Lowery hobbled (the latter not expected to play) could cause the defense to get lit up by a team that protects the passer well.
None of that is really anything to watch for right now though. Both of these teams are bad, and are just struggling to put things together somehow.
Key Questions for the Game:
How will the adjusted trip schedule to the west coast effect the Jaguars' performance.
Will Daryl Smith finally play?
Will the team make the turn heading out of the bye, or are they dead in the water?

There's no doubt he has improved from last season but he's still bad.
He never lets plays develop. If nothing is open when his internal clock goes off, it's checkdown city to Greg Jones. He also predetermines his throws before the ball is even snapped. You just can't do that in the NFL and be successful.
I just don't think he's the answer. _________________

I love the picture and comparison polls. I'm hoping both teams score like 300 points and tie in overtime. _________________

You'll get a good look at it for yourself in the very near future...
Make up your own mind, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a Jaguars fan who isn't at least on the verge of giving up on Gabbert. |
