|
|
|

I know we're all aware of Vick's current contract status, but I'll go ahead and outline his deal for a starting point to the discussion:
| Quote: | | 8/29/2011: Signed a six-year, $100 million contract. The deal contains $32.5 million guaranteed, including a $7 million signing bonus and all of Vick's first- and second-year base salaries and $3 million of his 2013 salary (for injury only). The sixth year voids if Vick participates in 35% of the Eagles' offensive snaps in any of the first five seasons, making the contract more realistically worth $80 million over five years. Another $3 million is available through incentives based on Super Bowl wins in 2011 and 2012, and playing time (77.5% of the regular season snaps). 2012: $12.5 million, 2013: $15.5 million, 2014: $12.5 million (+ $3 million roster bonus), 2015: $14.5 million (+ $2 million roster bonus), 2016: $20 million (Dummy Year), 2017: Free Agent |
Now with that out of the way, this post from Rotoworld essentially confirms what many of us have been speculating for a while:
| Rotoworld wrote: | | NFL Network's Michael Lombardi believes Michael Vick is playing for his 2013 job the rest of this season. |
| Quote: | | "His contract is set up such that the Eagles can walk away from him next year without any cap implications at all," said Lombardi. If he doesn't perform well, or the Eagles continue to go along this pace where they're winning but really not winning, I think you'll see them make a change of quarterback." We believe Vick has shown improved game-management skills and accuracy the past two weeks, but there's little question that he will have to cut down on his turnovers and score more points to hold off Nick Foles and keep his roster spot next offseason. |
Looking at our 2013 cap space with the current roster we have and the contracts they are currently under, we are expected to be about $17.5 Million over the cap. Vick's contract for 2013 is $17.9 Million. (Other cuts/restructures could be: Asomugha - $15.3M, Peters - $10.75M, Bell - $9.6M, Patterson - $4M, Graham $2.9M)
So knowing what you do of Vick, from the inconsistency to the turn overs to the playing good every once in a while, what do you think happens to him after this season? Do we give the keys to Foles for 2013? Do we try to draft a 1st round QB? Do we keep Vick? Do we target a top QB in FA or via a trade?

EDIT:

| Quote: | | Per PFT's Mike Florio, it's becoming a "foregone conclusion" that Vick won't be back with Philadelphia in 2013 at his $15.5 million salary. It's expected that the Eagles will release Vick "right after the Super Bowl." |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
| Quote: | http://www.eaglescap.com/next.html
Our biggest cap counted contracts for 2013 (cap hit if cut):
| Quote: | Vick - $17.9M ($7.2M)
Maclin - $2.9M ($1.25M)
Avant - $2.7M ($1.4M)
Celek - $4.5M ($1.2M)
Peters - $10.75M ($0)
Bell - $9.6M ($0)
Watkins - $2.1M ($2.1M)
Babin - $4.4M ($.6M)
Patterson - $4M ($0)
Jenkins - $5.5M ($0)
Ryans - $6.6M ($0)
Asomugha - $15.3 ($4M)
Note: Not including McCoy, Jackson, Herremans, Mathis, Cole, Graham, and Cox, who will surely be around for 2013. |
We're expected to be $17.4M over the cap in 2013 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
| Quote: | http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/14/michael-vicks-contract-gives-the-eagles-an-out/
| Quote: | | Vick’s contract calls for him to make $16 million next year, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Vick’s contract guarantees $3 million of that salary if he’s still on the Eagles’ roster three days after the Super Bowl. But the contract also gives the Eagles the ability to cut Vick and have no financial obligations to him, and no charge to their 2013 salary cap at all. |
| Quote: | | And according to Schefter, league sources believe that cutting Vick is exactly what the Eagles will do unless he leads Philadelphia deep into the playoffs this season. |

The only way Vick stays on this team is if he has some amazing turn around. I'd say there's a 97% chance he's a goner right now. _________________

97% chance he stays.
The Eagles will make the playoffs and retain him.
The Eagles won't release Vick without knowing for sure they will be OK without him. We don't know anything about Foles. _________________

The only way he is gone is if we end up with a top 10 pick. _________________

He keeps turning it over 3 times a game and that's not out of the realm of possibilty. If we don't make the playoffs he's gone. _________________

Vick will be gone if
1) He stays healthy and the team fails to make the playoffs
or
2) He gets hurt and Foles convincingly leads the team to the playoffs
He will stay under any other circumstances, at least through next pre-season _________________

No it's not out of the realm of possibility. But not a 97% chance. _________________

| I wouldn't bring Reid or Vick back next season if this season were to end today. There is just too much wrong with the construction of this roster to ever win a game in the playoffs. There is just too much wrong with the coaching of this team to ever win a game in the playoffs with the roster as comprised. If a true #1 receiver were added then the Eagles would have a shot. Paying Vick next season without a #1 receiver will look much like what we have seen this season. The NFL has adjusted to the finesse downfield passing game that the Eagles have. Andy/Marty haven't successfully made a counter adjustment, both philosophically & personnel. So the Eagles are a big joke. The name of the game is to blitz Vick on passing downs with defensive backs through the kindergarden protection schemes of Howard Mudd while daring one of the finesse players to beat them in the short and intermediate area before getting hurt (Maclin/Jackson). |

Considering his play since the start of last season I would not protest a fresh start. Turning the ball over more than you score is a huuuge problem. When you ask "What's wrong with the Eagles?" I can point to what's wrong with Michael Vick because his issues superimpose themselves over the entire team. Turnovers. Inconsistency. Lack of structure and discipline. Lack of precision.
I'm not on the Vick bandwagon right now. |

I didn't think the Steelers loss would cause so much damage to this forum. _________________

This topic has little to do with the Steelers loss, are more about Vick's play in an Eagle jersey in general. In his last 30 games as an Eagle (since the start of the 2010 season), he has 28 fumbles and 26 INTs, with 56 total TDs and a QB Rating of 87.6 overall.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/2549/michael-vick
His record when starting is 18-12 over that same span (since the start of 2010), so we have to take that into account, as well. _________________

^^Better yet, let's look at his numbers from the start of 2011 (just weeks after signing that huge deal), which is his last 18 starts:
26 TDs, 20 INTs, 18 fumbles, 81.35 QB rating
10-8 record as a starter _________________

Considering the talent around him, that's not good enough. |

Eaglescap.com says that if Vick is cut in 2013 we would have to pay him 7.2 million of the 16.5 he would get.
If Reid stays, I think Vick stays, if not Vick could be a goner.
Remember the cap we have left from this year which is 22-24 million we roll over to next year. JP and/or Bell is gone for sure so that's ~10 or maybe 20 million.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nnamdi took a regular pay cut of something like 5 million which would mean his contract would be something like 5/55.
Cullen Jenkins makes 5.5 million next year, he could easily be a goner aswell. _________________

That talent isn't all its cracked up to be. Maclin isn't a number #1, could he still be? Yeah, but it hasn't been proven. O-line only came together after week 8 last year and hasn't been the same this year. This group as a whole is talented, but take one piece away and they are just average.
The Game plan for the last 18 games has been awful up until the last two weeks...
When your Oline sucks and all you call for is 5 and 7 step drops it kind of makes it hard to succeed.
I'm pro Vick, but im not going to get carried away and say he is more than he is. Vick needs the running game like a lot of other QBs do and hopefully the Eagles continue to mix in 3 step drops because it can't always be 5 steps and more.
If there is a chance to get a guy that has elite talent im all for it. _________________ Meow |
