Haden being back is huge for our secondary and now we lose Patterson for a couple weeks so the depth is thin again. _________________

I know everyone(blind fans full of false hope) is going to keep on me and keep telling me I am wrong, but Patterson is crap anyway. We don't lose much with him hurt because Skrine/Wade and Brown are not a huge drop off simply because Patterson is just as bad. On the majority of NFL depth charts Patterson is a #4 guy and he is playing as our #3 or #2 depending on injuries. Its not good enough to win in this league. _________________

I won't get on you because you are correct. Patterson has been beaten quite a bit this year. Including a TD this week. I said it I believe last week and people disagreed. _________________

He's been beaten a lot this year because he is a nickel CB playing the #1 spot. Remember week one when he played great? Yeah he was the nickel. _________________ Trent Richardson please!!! |

Patterson is a GREAT slot corner.
The fact that he gets no love for that is amazing.
He's not a number 1. He's an OK number 2. But he's a great slot CB.
Losing him is a bigger blow than most KNOW to admit. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

Only a Clevleand fan would make such an outrageous statement.
Like Andra Davis was a great linebacker. Hank Fraley was once a very good Center. Reuben Droughns was a good RB.
Cleveland fans will make excuses for marginal talent out of blind hope every year. _________________

He's not a marginal talent in the slot. He gave up 0 TDs and had 11 pass breakups last season. He's very good in the slot, and awful outside. We knew this. |

I would never make a claim without justification.
Last year, among EVERY SINGLE CORNER THAT PLAYED THE SLOT PRIMARILY,
Patterson was targeted 50 times, 6th most.
allowed 24, 9th least amount.
14th in yards allowed from the slot.
ZERO td's allowed from the slot.
and was 6th in QB rating against.
I've done my homework. Maybe you should check it out.

Here, just in case you decide to not check out my post.
| Quote: | --Now we have Dimitri Patterson. He received a somewhat wealthy contract for what most thought was a "solid" year. I'm not going to do his rankings b/c he didn't play 50% of the snaps.
Key Stats;
Completion against- 52.2
Avg YPC- 12.3
Avg YAC- 6.17
TD- 0
PD- 11
QB rating- 72.3
Did you know?- Patterson is a slot corner. And a very good one. From the slot, He allowed ONE reception for every TWELVE snaps. 4th best of EVERY CB that plays the slot. Other key stats from the slot
Completions against- 48%
YPC-12
YAC- 6.3
QB rating- 66.2 (5th)
-In PFF's ranking, for coverage, Patterson is ranked 17th(among ALL CBs). He's also ranked 74th against the run.
What he must improve upon- Its hard to find a fault for a guy that was only on the field in Nickle packages. And he played that role very well. His ranking against the run is terrible, but he didn't see many opportunities either.
The Verdict- What we asked him to do, he did at a very high level. He was one of the most underrated FA signings of last year. While is numbers are very average on the outside, they are incredible in the slot. Thats a very difficult position to play and its easy to see why Heckert re-signed him.

I see what I see on the field and I see suck. I don't give a flying what stats say. He's crap period. When Cleveland FO and coachs finally realize he, Skrine and Young are crap then we'll start winning games. _________________

Wow. This is just ignorance.
I've provided for you, a comprehensive collection of "stats" PROVING his worth. I know what you see. You see a guy trying to play outside, when he needs to be inside. Completely ignoring what he did all of last year.
Against PHI, when he was able to play just the slot, Patterson was targeted 7 times, allowed 4, for 22 yards. No TD's.
I've done what I can to prove my point. All you've done is say "he sucks"
Just for the record. Heckert thought he was worth getting in FA. Then Keeping. Shumur obviously likes him. PHI liked him enough until it was a numbers game with all their FA signings. The stats support all of these.
Everyone and everything else disagrees with you. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

The way I see it is Haden is a legit top 5-10 CB at a minmium.
Brown and and Patterson are OLD and getting older respectively and Nickel Corners at Best.
Skrine and Wade are Nickel CB's at best IMO.
Everyone wants moan about safety play but there is a very large whole @ #2 cb, Almost as big as a LDE play RDE and getting no consistent pass rush pressure.
Better pass rush from the RDE spot and a number 2 CB and A LOT of defensive woes will vanish IMO. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!
