Larry Johnson lit the world on fire for Penn State in 2003, getting a young redsoxsuck05 into the college football scene.
Picked in the first round, while LJ didn't exactly endear himself early on (think - Vermeil), he exploded onto the scene after Priest Holmes came down with a severe injury. I remember he was absolutely INCREDIBLE in 2005 and wasn't quite as good the next year but had 400+ solid carries.
Unfortunately there wasn't much beyond that due to injuries, age, personal issues, etc. So where do my fellow FFers place LJ among his contemporaries? From what I remember his O-Line was starting to age with a big deal being made about Roaf's retirement and how that would affect LJ going forward.
While he flamed out as quickly as he burst onto the scene, he was sure fun to watch for a few years. My favorite non-Giant of all time. _________________

We wont.
Im a Penn State fan, and Ive never liked him. He always had a huge ego and thought he was better than everyone.
If he is remembered for anything football wise in the NFL, it will be likely that Herm Edwards basically ruined his career by running him into the ground.
Other than that, he only had 2 memorable seasons. He is bascially an after thought and just another flash in the pan. _________________

I'll remember him as a prima donna who had 2 really great seasons toting the rock (05 and 06 IIRC?), and after those two seasons really was underwhelming. _________________

Honestly, all I remember are all the woman he beat up. And how that great oline carried him.
But his charecter really pissed me off and many of the chiefs fans don't even like him. You bring up his name in kc and watch the cuss words fly. |

Another Penn st. RB that should have been a bust. He just happened to get drafted to a team with a great offense and a great o-line.
He'll be remembered as the guy stupid enough to carry the football 416 times in 1 season. Eric Di ckerson was the only RB to get 400 in a season and still have good years afterwards. Seems like Johnson was so vain, in wanting to get that all time carry record, he didn't care at all that it would cut his career short. _________________

He'll be a reminder to not run the ball over 400 times a season. _________________

His legacy is basically what not to do with RBs and I do believe in some way that LJ's sudden drop in ability lead more teams to take RB-by-committee plans. I don't remember it getting to be the common thing until around then, but maybe that's just me. _________________

I'll remember how people on this message board were sure it was a foregone conclusion that he'd reach 2000 yards in 2005. How could he not when he got 1700 yards in 9 starts?
Silly people.
Oh, and he was a jerk. Not so much after he left the Chiefs. But he definitely had ego problems. _________________
