So what's going on with Ras-I Dowling?
After what seemed like an impressive start in his rookie campaign until the inevitable injury happened, he looked healthy and started against TEN in Week 1 this season, but ever since has just gone missing.
Not on the IR. Active, even played in garbage time against the Bills but has fallen below stellar NFL CB's such as MARQUISE COLE and STERLING MOORE.
Now I for one am hoping that he is being taught the Safety position, but BB does not want him to learn 'on the fly' so is being kept off the field for that reason, but that went out the window when he was lined up as a Dime CB in garbage time last week.
I really had high hopes for Dowling, but now my hope is dwindling.
Can anyone shed any light on the situation? _________________

Occam's razor - he's not doing his job. BB either sees something on film or on the practice field that he doesn't like. _________________ 2012 Adopt-A-Patriot: Wes Welker

Pretty simple - the Pats have almost never used 4 CB sets this year and he obviously hasn't been practicing or performing as well as Sterling Moore as the #3 CB.
People seem intent on over-analyzing this one but it's really that simple.
Also, I don't think it's fair to say he's fallen behind Marquice Cole. |

I don't know what the snap totals were like but I'm sure I saw more of Cole than I did of Dowling on defense. _________________

Cole had 4 snaps
Dowling had 5
So no, you didn't see Cole more than Dowling. |

Yeah, I'm wondering if maybe he was distracted by that if she was sick recently. Of course, we don't know whether or not her death was sudden or if Dowling was especially close to her so it's probably useless to speculate as to whether or not that's the cause of his being buried on the depth chart.
It really could just be that Sterling Moore has impressed the coaching staff. I know Belichick was very complimentary of Dowling last week in his press conference (can't read much into that, of course). I would have expected him to take more of his usual neutral "Ras-I competes, all of our players compete and prepare for the game" type of line. |

If it was a personal issue why would he even have been suited up for the Bills game and played garbage time snaps?
Unless he just wasn't prepared in terms of game planning etc. and missed practice to spend time with his family or something? _________________

None of the above.
He's so fragile, we're saving him for playoff time. _________________
