I know that the Rams are going to let him opt out of his contract after this year making him a free agent. Do we bring in another veteran to help out the team.
I mean it makes alot of sense for Tampas part. Blount could walk at the end of the season seeing he lost his starting job to the rookie and hasn't been getting much time on the field. Does he try his luck elsewhere?
Tampa has a young rookie runningback so bringing Jackson in would help Martin greatly. Jackson will be able to show him how to prepare like a vet. When it comes to practice, watching film, and taking care of his body. Martin would be able to learn alot from a guy like Steven Jackson rather then Blount.
Jackson would also help out Freeman. A proven guy in the backfield who is one of the best pass blocking runningbacks in the league. Jackson could be somebody Freeman can rely on.
Jackson at the age of 30 is not a starting runningback anymore. I think he is smart enough to know that, but he could be an effective number 2. He could spell Martin and be a third down back. Put him in the game when were on the goal line or third and short.
If we can make this happen I would be ecstatic but Im not getting my hopes up.
Any thoughts? Or is this just completly out of the question in your eyes? _________________

I would love to bring him in but an aging running back opting out of the last year of his contract usually doesn't go to a rebuilding team. I would look for him to go to someone like the 49ers, Patriots or Giants.
Giants make the most sense to me at this point. _________________

Did someone read an article I posted....? Lol
here's what it was...
| Quote: | The St. Louis Rams announced early this week that they will terminate star halfback Steven Jackson‘s contract at the end of this year. While Jackson has stayed committed to the Rams for the duration of his career, it’s clear that both sides would benefit from this move.
The Rams are a young, up and coming team, with plenty of draft picks over the next two years draft, which they acquired from the Washington Redskins for Robert Griffin III. With those extra picks, they should be able to find a successor for Jackson.
Jackson, who will turn 30 this upcoming off season, has been the embodiment of consistent. He’s been able to run for over 1,000 yards in every year that he’s been a starter, since 2005. The problem for Jackson is that the Rams just haven’t been a successful team.
Letting Jackson walk would give him a chance to sign with a team that can compete for a championship, and give him his first playoff appearance as a professional player.
So why would the Tampa Bay Buccaneers be a good fit for Jackson? The thought might be strange, especially after spending a first round pick on now current rookie Doug Martin, but hear me out.
First, even though the front office has shaken up a bit since Jackson was drafted in 2004, a lot of the same faces are still in the building, and were big advocates of drafting him in 2004. It was said that the entire draft room was split between taking Jackson, and who they would eventually take, Michael Clayton.
Next, LeGarrette Blount is only under contract through the remainder of the year. With the use — or lack thereof — so far on the season, Blount may want to try his luck elsewhere.
While Martin has proved to be an every down back, coach Greg Schiano has made it clear that he likes having multiple options, and even signed D.J. Ware as the season starts to add a veteran presence to the backfield.
Adding Jackson to the Bucs would give them a better veteran presence, and someone that is a complete back that could teach Martin the ropes of being a pro bowl caliber running back, as well as save both of their legs.
Jackson shouldn’t be relied on to carry a full load anymore, but splitting time with Martin should prolong his career. He is also one of the best blocking backs in the NFL, which Martin has had a little trouble adapting to. Ware has seen a ton of the third down action over the past few weeks.
Jackson could easily become the third down running back, or could relegate Martin to that job. This could increase both of their effectiveness, as I think Martin will be rode hard the rest of this year.
The problem some people might say is that he would want to go to a team capable of going to a super bowl. The Buccaneers are an improving team though, and if Josh Freeman can progress through the year like the coaching staff believes he can, there is no reason to think that this team couldn’t compete at that level.
Jackson is what coach Schiano would refer to as a “Buccaneer man.” He is a great example, on and off the field, and could provide the Bucs a great veteran presence in the locker room, and in the community. If Blount were to walk this off season, I think it’s something that Mark Dominik and Schaino should take a long look at. |

I wouldn't mind it, but I don't think it will happen. And I think we retain Blount because he's a RFA. _________________

Here is what I am thinking. They are running the guts out of Martin. They only seem to give Blount the ball just enough to keep the fans off from their back. Ward, he is allowed to appear just once in a while (I'm still trying to figure out why they signed him), and Michael Smith, the fastest player on the team, they usually just declare him inelligable and have him stand on the side lines and watch the game.
Now, why is it again that we should sign another running back? They haven't shown that they know how to make use of the ones that we now have. They apparently have no concept of tandem running backs, or of platooning them.
If what we are doing now is not working, you can't just keep doing the same thing over, and over, and over again and hope to achieve success. Something has to change, different looks, options, etc. |

Schiano is going to learn you can't have just 1 feature back in this league. You have to have another RB or even 2 to take the load of your starter.
I like Schiano. I think he's going to be a good coach and he's learning, and he's a pretty smart dude. He'll know pounding the football in run heavy will not work.
Back to Jackson: get a younger back. Jackson probably won't come here. And honestly, he's on the downside of his career I don't think he'll accept a backup mentoring role to Martin.
BTW, I still wish we took him in 2004 over Clayton. |

Only thing is: If Martin is Schiano's guy, no one wants to have a limited role. A 2 back system splitting the load? Yes. an offense where Martin takes 85% of the snaps?
No.
I want to see more of Michael Smith. We're 1-3. What do we have to lose? |

NYG? Have Bradshaw and Wilson..
GB? Looks like best fit
NE? They have 4 backs they rotate as is, w/Ridley getting main load
Dal? Another good fit...
Let me say this, since Caddy has left, Freeman has regressed. I think adding a S-Jax would help Free just as much.... _________________
