Honestly, I think Blair Walsh or Greg Zurlein are probably more deserving. Harvin, outside of his two 40+ returns, has largely been contained.Though I guess 2 40+ yard returns in 9 total returns is still impressive.
Nevertheless, I think Walsh has had a bigger impact on special teams for the Vikes than Harvin due to his high number of touchbacks and reliability on FGs.
Congrats to Harvin though! |

I dont think touchbacks will typically be used as a significant factor in determining this.
I agree that Young GZ could have won this. _________________

I think that people have underestimated what Harvin has done outside of the TD return, and I'm glad to see he got recognized, take that out of his returns, and he is consistently getting 25+ yards, which basically means anything in the front half of the endzone he returns as good or better than a touchback, and there have been a number of returners this year who have been taking those kicks out and consistently been getting tackled inside the 20. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

I can't help but think they might have factored Harvin's presence on the field on offense as well. I don't think he deserved it over Walsh or Zuerlein. _________________

if Harvin keeps this up all year, which is of course just an if, he'll have to be considered for MVP actually.
but i don't care a lot about individual awards. i care about individual accomplishments, like Brees setting his record last year, but not so much awards. _________________

MVP only goes to the top QB of the season. Unless a RB has a historically elite season. Harvin may be MVP of the team, and he could even push for the offensive player of the year award, but he doesnt stand a chance at being MVP. |

I think they would consider the top 10 statistical QBs before they even consider Percy, unfortunately. Its an award intended for QBs, barring a historically elite season by a RB (and even more rarely, a defensive player).
I dont think a WR has ever won the award.
Since 1986, a QB or RB has won the award. Lawrence Taylor was the last non QB/RB to win.

The last non QB/RB to win offensive player of the year was Jerry Rice in 1993. |

Fran Tarkenton, gushing: "I think Harvin is the greatest non-quarterback offensive threat in the NFL today. Seeing him on the field in the same game as the great Calvin Johnson for Detroit actually helped make that clear. Johnson is an unbelievable talent, but Harvin can do so many things. Even in a game when he never quite got going in the passing game, Harvin was able to make a huge difference. Whether it's in the passing game, the running game or special teams, he has more opportunities to make dynamic plays than anyone else in the league."

I agree. Vikingsrule didn't take into account how many WR's have been considered for the MVP award when blasting your dream. This man isn't just a WR, he's a weapon. The guy needs to be in the running, as he's helping return Minnesota to the top. _________________
