Through 4 games he leads all DTs with 5 sacks, gets constant pressure, and is still young. Is there any player that you think is as good or better at DT?

It depends on who we're calling defensive tackles. If we assume the 3-4 ends like Watt, Ngata and Smith don't count, then I wouldn't be uncomfortable with making that declaration.

Henry Melton might have something to say about that

Yes.

A weak answer for a weak thread.

Who would have thought that Atkins would turn out to be a better player than Suh and McCoy.

Technically, as I type this, that's accurate, however I expect Briggs INT from last night to be changed to a Sack/FF by Melton sometime this week. Atkins and Melton had near identical #s last year, and it's carried into this year. These 2 are clearly the gold standards at pass rushers at the DT position. They are also nearly the same age. IOW, these guys could be seeing each other in Honolulu annually for a long, long time.

Fletcher Cox was suppose to be raw, well he leads our DT's for snaps, and he threw Marshal Yanda around like a rag doll in the 2nd half. And he's getting double teamed alot.

Like someone else said, are we counting 34 DEs?

I haven't gotten to watch everyone, but from what I've seen he's the benchmark for 43 DTs right now. Melton is balling as well, Suh has been quiet for awhile now.

I only watched part of the Skins game, so I can't really talk about Atkins, but Melton has been pretty beastly this year. He'll probably be credited with 5 sacks by the rule committee in a couple of days, and he has played much better against the run. The Bears will have 16 sacks through 4 games (assuming the Briggs pick is overturned), despite only blitzing around 20% of the time, and Melton is a big reason why.

If Gerald McCoy can stay healthy for 16 games he might have something to say about it. Melton is playing at the same level although not getting doubled as much from what I see.

I would say Geno, followed closly by McCoy, Melton and Suh. Of course there is always Wilfork as well. Not sure if he's been playing 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT though. But if he's included I'd go with him...

Pretty sure he's been playing as a 4-3 DT as they're in the 4-3 now.

Brandon Mebane has been playing at an elite level all year.

His impact has more been in the run game, but he is also generating a lot of interior pass rush.

Mebane is killing it. I have naughty, naughty dreams of Atkins playing next to Mebane.
