Quote:
Texans GM Rick Smith is "almost in awe" of Houston CB D.J. Hayden.
"He's a heck of a player," Smith said Tuesday. Smith is more than likely just buttering up a local product, but there's no reason the Texans shouldn't at least consider Hayden if he's still on the board at No. 27. He's just unlikely to fall that far. Hayden surpassing Dee Milliner as the draft's top cornerback appears to be more smoke than fire, but he has a good chance to come off the board in the first 16 picks.

I just peeped that as well. I wonder if he is trying to drive the market for Hayden up so another player falls to Houston or if he is also trying to drive up the market for our 1st round pick. Think

Then again, Hayden is getting ALOT of love from pundits, GM's, etc. b/c of his story & skills.

Also awe could be reffering to the fact that he recovered so well from an awful awful injury that could have killed him.

I would be pissed and happy at the same time if we pick DJ. I like DJ and hope that he has success in the NFL, but we dont need to spend a 1st rounder on a CB when we have other needs. Is Kareem under contract for another 2 years?

That could be one way to look at it. Maybe it is a smokescreen also.

A 2013 – 2015 game plan (before I post my predict the pick selections)

- Restructure WR Andre Johnson (just enough to free up $5M) although some may hate the idea, last real chance to save some $$$ on AJ's contract

- Sign WR Deverey Henderson (NO) (1 year – $3M) a rookie WR won't play much and Henderson can at least threaten to take the top off a defense (I think Apollo or AA pointed that out previously)
- Sign OLB / DE Louis Nzegwu (Wisconsin / ATL / MIA) (3 years – all minimum) played with SWatt; has tools to be outside pass rush threat
- Sign OLB / DE Jameson Konz (Kent State / SEA) (3 years – all minimum) has tools to be outside rush threat & ST demon; injury prone
- Sign QB Matt Leinart (OAK) (2 years – all minimum) knows the offense & insurance

Rick Smith did his pre draft press conference today.

http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/Nick%E2%80%99s-Notes-Rick-Smith-pre-draft-press-conference/7331a389-1099-4cb9-a2c8-94650a1629da

A couple of notes:

Quote:

2. Best available: Smith emphasized several times that the Texans will draft the “best player available” and not draft based on need.

Quote:
4. "Plenty of areas": Smith named tight end with the loss of James Casey as another potential need, along with depth on the offensive and defensive lines: “There are plenty of areas on our football team where we can add good football players.”

I'm having a strange feeling that will draft Zach Ertz with our first round pick. Mad

^^ I'm hoping it's just an effort to get teams wanting the pick and they can trade down.

I hope that is too. I know for a fact that Smith will make a trade on draft night. I don't see him going with 9 rookie draft picks this season. It would really suck for whoever is going to the draft party and they make a trade back. Laughing

One of the guys on NFL.com did a 7 round mock draft for ever team.
He gave the Texans 3 WR's with our picks.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0ap1000000162248/article/2013-nfl-draft-sevenround-mock-forecasts-every-pick-1-to-254

Quote:
27. Houston Texans: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State. I don't agree with Watson being a first-round pick, but he shows more athleticism on the field than in drills and teams appear to be intrigued by his upside.
57. Texans: Keenan Allen, WR, California. Thanks to a slower 40 time and prolonged recovery process, Allen could wind up going late in the second round. He wins with burst in and out of breaks and reliable hands at the catch point.
89. Texans: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas.
95. Texans: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida.
124. Texans: William Gholston, DE, Michigan State.
160. Texans: Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific.
195. Texans: Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas.
201. Texans: Cierre Wood, RB, Notre Dame.
233. Texans: Rodney Smith, WR, Florida State.

Another possible trade partner! The value is even if we give them 1-27 for their 2-11 and 3-11

Also the Bills are worried that Nassib won't last, I bet they freak out and take him at #8

He obviously has no what idea what the Texans need, but he may just be predicting this happens. No S/CB or ILB or DT in this mock? Tyler Wilson in the third?
