I saw the play and didn't think it was that flagrant.
Yeah, it was a horse collar and he deserved the penalty but it really wasn't all that violent a tackle.

| I dont know how pay works for these players, but if Smith is making $390,000 salary in 2012, as he is, that would be about $23,000 per week (for 17 weeks). So he has essentially lost about two weeks worth of pay for all of his fines through Week 6. |

But he got a $3.6 million signing bonus. I don't think he's hurting for cash.
And I don't see the fine as a problem. Fines are handed out to deter players from continuing dangerous behavior on the field. Smith tackles was a text book horse-collar tackle, he grabbed the guy by the neck of the jersey, and he pulled the guy down from behind.

Im not defending the guy and or arguing against the system, i was just putting the fine in context with what his weekly salary is. |
