The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority has scheduled a special meeting Friday, Sept. 28, to pick a firm to design the new Vikings stadium. The team and the public authority haven't agreed on a firm yet or even eliminated any of the five finalists, said Michele Kelm-Helgen, chairwoman of the authority, but she said she's confident a decision will be ready by Friday.
Once a firm is selected, its bid becomes public information, said Kelm-Helgen, and that would include whatever designs it submitted for the Vikings facility. But those drawings might have little or nothing to do with what the actual stadium winds up looking like, she cautioned.
Kelm-Helgen: "We're not sure that any of these would be within our budget or be the kind of thing we would be building."

After two days of face-to-face interviews and weeks scrutinizing renderings and portfolios, the Minnesota Vikings finally have their architect.
A nearly two-month search for the firm that will design the new $975 million Vikings stadium ended Friday morning when the team and the public board overseeing construction of the project selected HKS Inc. of Dallas, which recently designed new NFL stadiums for the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts.

i'm still concerned it will look like a casserole dish or a hockey puck. _________________

It'll be interesting to see what the design will be...I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.
HKS doesn't appear to have done a lot of work in the Upper Midwest (outside of the University of Iowa Children's Hospital), so they may not be as familiar with the environment. I'm kind of "hippie-like", so I hope they design it as "green" as possible (they claim that they are one of the leading architects of sustainability...so they better deliver it).
I find it kind of odd that they don't even list Lucas Oil Stadium as part of their portfolio. _________________

If your stadium ends up anything like the Dallas Cowboys stadium, be prepared for a loss of home field advantage. Our old stadium had a football game atmosphere about it. In the new one, the atmosphere is more like that of a social gathering, with a big TV hung from the ceiling. _________________

I don't find it odd at all, because Lucas Oil Stadium has been a financial disaster. It has operating losses to the tune of $20 million/year. _________________

I can't imagine that it will end up like that, especially since it's going to be built on a far smaller space. They are going to have to be "real" creative.
I'm just scanning through lots of their press releases and it seems that they are pretty prolific on designing hospitals. _________________

| Really wish they would've gone with Poplulous. Do not like the HKS pick at all. |

I agree with you, but we'll just have to wait and see what they come up with. I certainly would have preferred the known to the unknown (at least in the Minneapolis area). _________________

Just as long as it doesn't end up like the mess that is Miller Park (which they contributed on). _________________

Have the been designs by this firm been made available for us to see or do we just know details about their designs submitted? (Like that both of their designs had a retractable roof) _________________

We don't know anything yet...I believe when they originally applied for the job, they just showed examples of designs for their other projects, not this one. _________________
