Surprised this isn't already posted, his performance has simply been unbelievably bad. How many teams are we going to let score 30+ before he gets canned?
Should have fired him at half time.

Firing Jim Haslett won't suddenly make our defense respectable. We knew going into the season we were thin at DB. We lost 2 starters on D and are starting 2 backup safeties. Not really sure what you were expecting? our run D is good, which is what was expected. As for our pass D, obviously we won't stop anyone from moving the ball with a bunch of back ups and Deangelo Hall. I think I have more of an issue with our personnel than our coaching staff/scheme. _________________ RIP SSF

This. Haslett might suck as well but you can't blame the coach until you have the right people and right now we might have the worst secondary in the league. |

| That's not true if you have a good DC your d will be more organized and can do a bit more. There's teams with less talent than us on D that's been doing better.? Fire Jim? Fire shabby!!!! He hired him and gave us a 3-4. |

The secondary is awful - the safeties might not even be on another NFL roster.. and the corners would be nickels.. We been yapping forever about the need for a right tackle but how in the world do you replace an entire secondary ..?? With no cap space.?
It doesn't seem to be the scheme -- we played zone against St. Louis and got killed . We played man against Cincy and we got killed., but one thing-I surely would have doubled Green on ever play ..--- at least take away their top weapon and go from there ..
BTW -- do we ever get right in a recievers face and challenge him getting off the line ??
I am so discouraged -- another lost season and we can't even hope for a high draft pick .. |

The secondary we knew was going to be awful coming into the season before Meriweather even got hurt. Haslett's issues are arising from the fact that he is unyielding when it comes to breaking away from that 34 zone when the opposing personnel in the game obviously calls for, at the very least, a nickel coverage. There's no reason for professionals to look around confused when they have had a chance to study game film of the wildcat all week, and there's no excuse for an undersized Gomes to be matched up 1 on 1 with a top 5 receiver. Let alone the fact that haslettmedown blitzes relentlessly even when he's been burned for 1st downs consistently, he doesn't make adjustments that suit his own players. the only player they had to worry about they couldn't cover, that means the coach didn't do a good job of preparing them. who cares if hawkins or binns beats you because you never expected them too. But you should have expected for AJ to go off because you would have him circled all week.
As great as London Fletcher is he's undersized, why would you refer to a scheme that requires him to cover a large range of space? At least Morris would play more man to allow us to double up when necessary.
but really this isn't as important, the season is shot w/o Trent _________________

| Just so we are clear I never said I liked Jim Haslett. I actually wanted Rob Ryan but my point is he doesn't have much to work with in the secondary and now Orakpo and Carriker are gone. |

| Guys ... it's really not on Haslett. Not completely. There simply isn't enough talent on the defensive side of the ball to work with. |

Yes our defense is lacking some premium talent but the gameplan/playcalling haven't been very good either. I don't think you should fire him but I think Shanahan needs to have a good talk with him and figure out what needs to be changed ASAP. |

Not during the season. Also, it's not Hasslett's fault that Shanahan and Allen haven't upgraded te secondary in the 3 offseasons they've been here. That's on our management. He and Morris don't have great talent to work with and that's not their fault. I hope next offseason we invest highly in a RT and our secondary. Both in the draft and in FA. As I said in the bengals GDT here is my plan:
1. sign Cary Williams, cb from Ravens
2. Draft Tony Jefferson in round 2, FS Oklahoma
3. Draft the best available cb in round 4
4. Draft Kenny Tate, SS prospect from Maryland who before he injured his knee was a mod round prospect and looked good vs wvu in a rover position. He's Sean Taylors size but runs slower. He runs in the 4.6-4.7 40 range
5. Continue to develop Crawford and get Minifield healthy, one of them should be nickel, the other dime cb
6. Cut Cedric Griffin and cut DHall after June 1st _________________

If our cbs can't cover 1 on 1 and they can't, then always make sure you have Madieu Willams back deep to cover their mistakes.
My greatest problem on the opening play was Hall and Gomes not recognizing they should be switching. Hall should have been on Green and Gomes on Dalton. If they didn't know what to do, they should have called time out. Hall is a vet and supposedly the leader of our secondary. He has to know that Green should be his man in that situation and if they were confused he should have been smart enough to call time out or someone else, but preferably Hall our secondary leader. _________________

Hasslett and now Morris have been a pile of dog crap to work with in the secondary since they've been hired, no one could turn the average to below average talent into a flower garden. _________________

If this defense does not improve, something needs to change. Whether it is personnel, play-calling, leadership...something. Yesterday was a woeful performance. _________________
