So long as your D stays on top, and your team keeps winning, there's no reason to care.
But yeah, I figure this is pretty much standard procedure in Steel City now. |

To be honest, Sanchez actually ducks into that hit. _________________

Timmons is still leading with his head. _________________

As a passer, Sanchez is considered defenseless.
Timmons hits him in the head/neck area. Doesn't matter if it's helmet to helmet...which it is just to further clarify the matter.
100% illegal hit.
End of story.
I don't necessarily agree with the rule, but that is the rule. _________________

wasn't he rolling out and about 1/2 step shy of crossing LOS?
the fine is justified, just saying that timmons wasn't very far from being legal. _________________ DIAF |

fantastic hit. Great play by Timmons. Would've liked it if he would've hit Sanchez a bit lower, but whatever.
it was nice to see Timmons actually attack. Now if only he'd stop missing tackles behind the LoS... _________________

At least he made it to the LOS in the 2nd game! |

Yep both rolling out and approaching the LoS.
If he wasn't a QB, ala McCoy vs. Harrison last season, that's not an illegal hit. The fact he is a QB in the act of passing, forces the refs to consider him a defenseless player.
Defenders are in a tough spot on a bootleg play like that. Commit and hope the QB comes across or play the ball and possibly miss the tackle if he pulls it down.
Some folks will yell about how easy it is just to aim lower, but something like 80% of these calls are due to inadvertent contact caused by both players movements. Split second reactions just can't be controlled that precisely. I don't think Timmons was lining Sanchez up to earhole him, I think he was trying to make an aggressive play and they happened to hit heads.
Sure Timmons hit was illegal, but I don' think it was in any way dirty. Nor were Tate's hit or Jenkins hits from this past weekend. They just tried to make a play and the physics of the plays in question ended up making the hits happen a little higher than they should of.
Illegal does not equal dirty in this day and age. Defenders are just held to a nearly impossible standard when they are deemed 100% responsible for the outcome of two players movements. _________________

Sanchez was ducking to brace for the hit. Timmons was leading with his shoulder, the hitting of the helmet just happened because sometimes in football they touch. You know, like on every damn play!
I don't think this hit deserved a fine, it's obvious that they do not take the actions of an offensive player into account when a helmet to helmet hit occurs. _________________

It's not, yet plenty of people get so worked up about what is and is not a fineable hit. _________________ Stay low boys.... keep those feet moving!

looked more like his natural follow through/motion. That will be the only headline timmons has this year from what I gather. |
