Aight, I know we got the awards thread but I got an argument goin with a ton of my friends and I'm the only Trout supporter. One goes as far as to tell em that defense and sabermetrics aren't used by the voters. So...my FF brethren, who is your 2012 AL MVP?

I feel like Mike Trout has had the better season. But as of late. He has died down and the hype train is for Miggy.

Trout - to me - is the better Runner and Fielder at a more important position while Miggy is the better hitter. And the difference is minimal at the plate and vast at the other two. However I've heard multiple ex-players say they don't give a crap about WAR, if a guy hits a triple crown, he's the MVP. A few others said they would vote for whomever made the playoffs. To me it's Trout but apparently the voters haven't dove 100% in on Sabermetrics like some on here.

Trout. Great season for Miggy though.

I feel bad for Amsinger having to defend sabermetrics against these two idiots who says Miggy is the clear MVP. Smoltz & Reynolds keep saying it's bad for the game.

Trout should win it.
Miggy will probably win it.

Co-MVP?

It's pretty much if you care more about WAR than you do the Triple Crown. If the Tigers get in the playoffs but the Angels don't and vice versa.. does that affect your answer?

It's not even the caring about WAR. I mean look at even basic statistics. They suggest that the two are comparable at the plate, but Trout is a better runner and defender. It shouldn't be a question.

Trout, easily.

However, MLB should redact it's earlier ruling about Trout's rookie eligibility.

Trout should absolutely win. He's looking at a potential 10 win season, and Miggy's looking at 7.5.
However, the award is historically an offensive one so I think Miggy is going to get it. Their overall offensive output has been very similar (wOBAs only 1 point apart, wRC+ 5 points), but Cabrera looks better in the categories the voters care about. He leads Trout in AVG, OBP, SLG, HR, RBI and doubles. Trout has him in SB and R. It's unfortunate, but that's how I think it's going to shake out.
