| So he is a free agent who is fully healed from injury and still wants to play football, he is 28 and hasnt had the best of seasons the last 2 years but he wants to play outside linebacker in a 3–4 defense, i think he still has the skills to get after the passer, buffalo was a 4–3 so he didnt have the scheme he wanted to succeed, with orakpo out for the year would any of you oppose to bringing him in and give him a chance for a one year deal? |

ehhh No. He's done IMO. I want to see what our young guys have. IMO this is hopefully our last year of evaluation with these young guys and next year they will all be experienced enough to help us make the playoffs. _________________

No thanks. I think Markus White has a world of potential as a situational pass-rusher and this Orakpo injury will give him an opportunity to develop his skills as a 3-4 OLB. _________________

Exactly this. Markus White has HUSTLE and therefore he's going to get reps this season. He offers a burst that none of the other LBs have and that could be very valuable down the stretch.
It's about building the experience of the depth players for the next couple of seasons to see who rises to the challenge. Markus White has an opportunity to be a long-term reserve for this team considering there is only Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson ahead of him, and both are replaceable. _________________

Obviously, Kerrigan and Riley have burst.
I'm not sure about the last sentence either, Jackson and Wilson are replaceable, but Markus White isn't?
I believe the organization thought he was replaceable, because three weeks ago, they cut him infavor of Jackson and Wilson.
I like Markus White and I like his potential and hustle as you said, but he's as replaceable as any of our back ups are at LB and you could make the argument he's more replaceable than any of our back ups because he was cut in favor of the other linebackers on our original 53 man roster. _________________

| Skins will give the young guys a shot first. If they aren't good enough, it will be weeks before we know, and by then, this team will be out of contention and Merriman won't want to play here, except if it's just for a paycheck. |

You guys act like Markus White is gonna get legit PT. He was just claimed off of someone else's practice squad....
Rob Jackson is gonna be the guy. I would much rather see Markus White get playing time, but I really doubt he will because he really has no exp in coverage. _________________ RIP SSF

Any way to the Merriman comment. If Jackson doesn't do good the skins should work him out and see what he has left. He didnt play any 3-4 in Buffalo but even so he is the best 3-4 Vet I can think of in FA. So give him a workout and see if his conditioning is good than give him a try. He is healthy now and had good reports from Bills camp but they let him go because he didn't fit as a 4-3 DE. He also in from D.C and a former terp who was on the LaVar and Dukes show a couple days ago.
Looked at the list its awful for OLB right now so Merriman is the hottest 3-4 LB right now . He'll get a contract else where my best bet the Colts .....and us if Jackson/Wilson/White are not viewed well as starters. Every other team has a good 3-4 dpth chart. |

They could have done this before they signed Markus White and chose not to.
No thanks. Markus White has a lot of potential and would have a roster spot if we had more room on the roster. Its that we kept a lot of WR's and DL as to why he does not have a roster spot. He had potential and we didnt want him to be wasted on the PS. _________________

He was drafted here. He was cut after he was injured. I think it says a lot that when they needed a guy, the Redskins immediately went back to Markus White.
I've seen enough of Jackson to know that he won't do much. He's got a good burst, but that's about it. |

You've heard me say it before, should not come as a surprise.
Orakpo has shown a great burst sometimes, but otherwise there is no 'burst' from the OLBs. I am not saying that I do not think Orakpo is valuable; he should be signed long-term when he adequately recovers from the torn pectoral. Still, Kerrigan is an all-out effort guy with exceptional football intelligence and good instincts - that is his value and it makes him a very good pass rusher.
If you are going to keep a player to develop as a reserve, he will have to have the ability to pass-rush; and yes he will have to show STs ability. This season, a priority was made to keep players that had experience on STs (Jackson and Wilson), to off-set the need to keep some of the young players from 2011 and 2012 inactive, or close to.
Markus White is a project, but he's also a football player. All of these guys are replaceable, and I would not be surprised if all are gone next off-season. The difference is that I think Markus White has the pass-rushing potential to warrant being kept provided he shows it this season. Of the three OLBs aside from Kerrigan, he's the one I am most confident can get the sack when it is needed. Rob Jackson has reached his potential, and there are worse players to have as reserves, however it is not sufficient as a pass rushing specialist. That was not needed before because you want Orakpo and Kerrigan to be on the field for pass rushing situations, now it is.
My hope is that they draft a mid-round OLB next season to replace Jackson/Wilson, or perhaps sign a veteran that can play special teams and offer a bit more as a replacement.
As I said earlier, Markus White will get reps this season and I would wager that he will have success when he does. _________________

Chris Wilson has burst. He has 4 sacks in a season on his resume (6 sacks in his caterer and 2 forced fumbles) as only a situational "speed or burst" (if we love that term so much) pass rusher and he can be more than just a special teams player. Both he and Jackson are capable up getting a handful of sacks in a season.
I like Markus white Footy, but he's no More special than any of the other olbs, if he was, then like I keep saying he wouldn't have been cut. If he had this great burst and was so special he'd see more playing time, but he doesn't.
I like Markus white also, but I'm not blind to the facts that are presented before us. Markus white is this teams 5th best OLB, not 2nd or 3rd and he wouldn't be on the roster if Orakpo didn't get injured. _________________
