Not how I wanted to come home. That's sad. Rest in Heavenly peace, Mr. Sabol. You've made a tremendous impact on my life through football. _________________

You can't write, or see, the history of the league without Ed and Steve Sabol. Both are legends that will live on as long as there are sports. Their influence stretched well beyond just football, it's hard to really quantify what they meant to sports filmmaking. _________________

Along with his father, Steve was a master of propaganda and building a routine football game into something that seemed legendary and larger than life.
Sadly, the NFL's been gutting NFL Films because the league got what it wanted out of them- those over-the-top productions attracted millions of fans globally when the league desperately needed growth, and now that those fans are in the fold and passing their love of the NFL on to their children, the NFL doesn't need to use NFL Films as much more than a massive archive. The overflow of crappy programming on NFL Network is a testament to that.
But, I digress. RIP, Steve. You helped make millions of 9 year olds think a 10 yard completion was the stuff of legends. |

The Autumn wind is a pirate
Blustering in from sea
With a rollicking song he sweeps along
Swaggering boisterously.
His face is weatherbeaten
He wears a hooded sash
With a silver hat about his head
And a bristling black mustache
He growls as he storms the country
A villain big and bold
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn wind is a Raider
Pillaging just for fun
He'll knock you 'round and upside down
And laugh when he's conquered and won.

NFL Films were perfect mix of music and visuals, an angry ballet danced by monsters in mud and snow. Thanks to Ed an Steve Sabol. _________________ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |
