... On Sunday I googled him to see if there were any updates on him, after I saw him in an ad and remembered he had a brain tumor. It's still on by browser history. It was the first time I checked on his update since I first heard he was diagnosed like a year ago... Eerie. RIP _________________

As an overseas fan, I've relied heavily on NFL films to teach me about the great characters that have coached and played this game.
Steve is not only an integral part of NFL films, but of the league and it's lore as a whole, and he is somebody who will be sorely missed by the entire community.
RIP Steve, we'll see you in Canton soon enough. _________________

So very sad to hear of his passing.
NFL Films is a staple to every football fan. The ability for NFL Films to go behind the scenes was truly unique and always interesting and entertaining. His contributions to the game will never be forgotten. His legacy will continue for generations just like his father before him.
Thank you Mr. Sabol for everything that you did for us football fans. _________________

As a European fan, I can do nothing but echo your thoughts. He and his dad brought fans across the globe closer to the game we all love. They allowed us to relive or discover seemingly forgotten moments of the NFL's past. Steve's distinct narrating voice will be stuck in my head for as long as I live. Thanks for the memories! You'll be missed... _________________

RIP one of the most universally loved and influential people in the sport. Should be on the Mount Rushmore of football. _________________

It's a shame, he should be in the hall of fame, and better have a damn moment of silence on Sunday.
The NFL's been gutting NFL Films for years though, so we know what they think of Sabol's work when there's pennies to pinch. |

Take a simple Irish shanty, Drunken Sailor, put it to a full orchestra, slow it down, make it majestic. Iconic NFL Films music. BTW, we vote for people based on similar techniques today. Amazing. I grew up watching him recount classic games. Pretty sad stuff. Sabol did a lot for the league. RIP. _________________ Dallas Cowboys 2012
