I wanna bring up a topic we've talked about last offseason before bringing in Spags. I know it's unrealistic, but i think we should switch to a 3-4 defense. The upcoming draft has a lot of great players at 3-4 OLB and with Lotulei (don't know how to spell it! ) a very talented NT. I doubt we will draft top 5 to pick him up, but bringing in a pass rusher like Mingo, Jones or Montgomery would be a big cornerstone to a new defense. It could look like this:
DE: Jordan
NT: Bunkley
DE: Ellis
OLB: Galette/Wilson
MLB: Hawthorne
MLB: Lofton
OLB: First round pass rusher (Mingo, Montgomery or Jones)
CB: Greer
FS: (Jenkins)
SS: (Harper)
CB: Robinson
It would be risky, because you don't know how players like Lofton, Hawthorne, Ellis and Bunkley would fit in a 3-4 scheme, but I would love to try it.
Our defense is arguably the worst in the nfl and we need to change anything. I hoped it would change with spags and they looked good in preseason, but after 2 weeks I'm really upset... _________________ NFL: New Orleans Saints

Ellis and Jenkins should be gone. I think that the Saints should stick with 4-3 because that us what Spags does.
DE- Jordan
DT- Hicks
DT- Bunkley
DE- Wilson
OLB- Jarvis Jones
MLB- Lofton
OlB- Hawthorne
CB- Robinson
CB- Greer
FS- ?
SS- Harper |

I have no doubt in my mind that this defense has top 15 talent. Unfortunately the execution is in the bottom 15.
New system, new coach and you want the defense thrown out after two games? This defense will get better as the year goes on. If they can get one great performance, that will do wonders to the confidence and progress of this new defense.
If you can't replace Jenkins..why get rid of him?
So much over reaction in this thread... |

Let me just throw my 2 cents in. In Spags first year with the Giants the first two losses were a combined 80 points. the first games was Romo with 15/24 345 4 TDs with 1 INT. The second was Farve with 29/38 with 286 yards 3 TDs and no INT. Now we look at week 1 and two of these passed weeks. RGIII went 19/26 320 yards 2 TDs. Cam went 14/20 with 253 yards 2 TDs. making the combined scores this season 67.
I think the defense will slowly get better, But seems the offensive line is suspect at best. KC may be the best time to address issues, and get back on the right track. Since after them is GB, SD and then a bye. |

Facing the reality that this defense is awful. I was a huge fan of Ellis and Jenkins when they were drafted. Jenkins doesn't have the instincts for the position. And Ellis is just a waste. Year after year new guys are brought in to help him live up to his potential. Well...this is his potential. He just isn't very good.
There is no way this defense could get worse...so why not get playmakers like Wilson and Hicks in there? Spags is starting on the wrong foot. |
