|
|
|
| Quote: | Bengals WLB Thomas Howard is out for the season after tearing his ACL in Wednesday's practice.
It's a huge loss for Mike Zimmer's defense. Howard was the Bengals' leading tackler last season and their best defender at Baltimore in Week 1, playing all 62 snaps. Core special teamer Dan Skuta is top candidate to take over on the weak side. The 29-year-old Howard was in the final season of a two-year, $6.5 million contract. |
| Quote: | Bengals re-signed LB Roddrick Muckelroy.
Muckelroy was released in final cuts after being outplayed by undrafted rookie Vontaze Burfict in August. He'll add depth at linebacker and special teams, allowing Dan Skuta to replace Thomas Howard as the weak-side starter. |

Wow, awful news... the dropoff from Howard to Skuta will be very noticeable, IMO.
Team has been hit hard by injuries... very hard. |

Agreed. Any chance you think we see Burfict play any WLB? _________________

I wondered why i was hearing Muckelroy's name again on the Twittersphere. Now it makes sense.
It's a loss for the Bengals, and really sucks for Howard since he was playing for a contract. _________________

When Dhani Jones was MLB did Maualuga play SLB or WLB?
Is there any chance of Maualuga moving into Howard's spot, with Burfict playing in the middle? |

He was the SLB.
That would leave us with too many undisciplined thumpers in the middle I think.
I expect Skuta to be the starting WILL for the rest of the season _________________

They had talked about moving Muck to the WLb spot before the lockout last year. That could be an option as well, plus it keeps Skuta fresher for special teams.
Another possibility: Start Miles at SS and move Mays to WLB. That actually could work well. _________________

That's a move for the offseason. No way can i see the team making that move during the season. It's hard enough to learn a new position in a few months time. _________________

At least he wouldnt have as much time to run up and smoke his own players. Cut down our losses on defense haha _________________
