Are there any excuses for this defense not to be a top 10, perhaps top 5 defense this year?
-A year and offseason under Rob Ryan
-Top Cornerback fleet
-Easily one of the best linebacking corps
-decent safeties
-decent line with a former all-pro nose tackle (when he returns).
Outside of injuries, is there an excuse if this defense isn't one of the best? I think Jerry and Garrett put together a very good unit for Rob Ryan. There's really nothing more he could ask for.
Are my expectations too high? |

| Well, you make good points but it will take some time before we can accurately assess them as a top 5 defense. I don't think you are reaching but you have to believe Baltimore and S.F. are going to be vying for numbers 1 and 2. |

I think a Top 5 is not out of the question, but there are better defenses out there for sure. I would be happy to not get burned twice a game with deep balls and those 40-50 yard pass interference penalties every freaking week. I'm so Glad Newman is gone, he was never the shut down corner he was heralded to be when we drafted him. Getting Jenkins back will help if he can cut down on the penalties. _________________ Every year I dream the Cowboys go 19-0 and have the #1 offense and defense in the league!
Romo throws 80 TD's, all receivers have 100 catches, 1500 yards and 20 TD's. Demarcus Ware has 40 sacks, and knocks out every QB he faces. |

| I expect at seasons end the Cowboys will have the best defense in the East and at least the 2nd best in the NFC... That should put them in the top 5 overall so we'll see. |

I dont know if I could say Ratliff will make that big of a difference. Lissemore and Brent held there own up front last week. Ratliff is getting worn down from age, I dont think he'll make a huge impact this year. _________________

Anything less than top 10 will be a disappointment but I could see top 5 if everything comes together as it appears it has with an off season for that got Rob Ryan what he needed (press coverage corners and time to really install his stuff _________________

| Obviously, I would like us to be the #1 ranked defense, but I follow Aikman's model that puts a higher priority on points allowed than yardage. |

I wonder if the Spencer haters took note of how dominating a performance he put up even without a sack. He was impressive all game and JJT (who I hate) had him as the most impressive defensive player of the game. _________________

Crawford barely played. Sensy, Chruch and Lee were the only ones to always be on the field. _________________

With the way Hatcher and the rest of the DL was playing, I'm not surprised Crawford didn't get many opportunities. _________________

Hope they can get Lee some rest sooner or later. Connor looked bad in the preseason but I would think he could at least see the field. _________________
