As much as I've been hating on Jonte I understand this move. We need corners in case corners get injured in our games. If we lose safeties to injury it is much easier for a CB to jump back to safety than for a safety to jump into a corner role. In any regard I just can't wait until we start getting healthy in our secondary again.
Speaking of Delmas this could be a good sign?

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Hate to say it, but this could very well be Delmas' last year with us. Flip side; if he stays healthy, I think he establishes himself as one of the best safeties in the game. _________________

Hopefully Mayhew can find a top flight corner back or two. _________________

There are 3 CB's that are top 10 talents that will be spread out throughout the top 20 and then there's a few more CB's that are late 1st-early 2nd round type talents that will be spread out through the 2nd round. Then there's like 10 quality safeties. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

They need a lot. But, when it comes to next years draft you could probably flip a coin between CB and S and it would be a vast improvement. Delmas just isn't that good, he hasn't been healthy lately, and he's going to need a new contract. Next offseason will be interesting. _________________

I just want to see the Lions field a competitive defensive backfield. I'm tired of feeling nauseous every time the opposition airs the ball out. _________________

What are the chances that Wendling emerges as a viable starter at safety? _________________

There's nothing I would love to see more. I'm a big fan of his.

I really like the way he plays on special teams, but it's rare you get to be age 29 as a special teamer before making a legitimate impact as a defender. Usually guys that go this route wind up more like Alex Lewis or Kalvin Pearson than like Quintin Mikell. In his career he's only made one noteworthy defensive play--an interception in his third year with Buffalo.
I'd be thrilled to see a guy come up through special teams and develop into a legit defender, but the fact that we're banking on him as an opening-day starter scares the crap out of me. Our secondary did not fare very well when he was forced into action after Delmas's injury last year, and while that's obviously not entirely his fault, it's hard to build a case for him based on that stint. _________________

To be fair, Wendling had only one start last season (week 5), while Delmas was out later in the season. I can't hold last year's secondary play against him.
He's only entering his 6th year in the NFL after being a 6th round pick, and his one start last year was the first start of his career. Late round picks usually contribute on STs. I guess I'm not ready to write him off based on those circumstances. _________________
